Trunk 21 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) Hi, Just had an idea. Hehe. Situation I have a NAS set up as the main storage. But sometimes I connect an external HD to the NAS to watch something I have moved to an Archive HD. When browsing the library I sometimes wonder what is in my main storage and what is external. This could be useful if one have more than one NAS storage too. Idea How about the option to set a color and a label for each folder in a library like this: And then if a label is set for a folder then something like this could appear in the library when browsing: In this mockup the "9-1-1" series is on the external HD. This label could also be shown other places in the UI (like on episode view) and filters. The mockup is just an general example. Showing this label for a show could also be a setting on a user, if you do not want to show that to other users of your system. -Trunk. Edited October 5, 2019 by Trunk 2
ebr 16185 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Systems like Emby are primarily meant to abstract things like physical location such that they don't matter to the end user so I'm not a big fan of this type of information in the normal UI. Most users would just be confused by it. Perhaps, something with tags could be done in a generic way. 1
funwithmedia 373 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 When we have Smart Collections, perhaps you could create a Smart Collection based on the file path to automatically add those Archive items to a particular Collection. And then once Emby adds the feature of displaying Collections on a movie's detail screen you'd be able to know that a movie is in the Archive location based on it being in that special Collection.
levander 97 Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 I like the idea but I agree with ebr that it would be better to make this work with tags. So +1 for that.
Trunk 21 Posted October 6, 2019 Author Posted October 6, 2019 I agree with ebr that Emby do a brilliant job of abstracting this. The information is not needed for normal users. This is more for me as an admin. If this is solved in the future with tags, smart collections or other. I'm going to be really happy. Looking forward to smart collections if that arrives in the future. Sounds like a cool feature.
