charlesbr 2 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Hi, I have just purchased a Synology DS118 which came as advertised as having hardware transcoding which is great because I want to utilise my new HDHomerun Connect Quatro. However, I have just been reading up on various posts that the Realtek RTD1296 CPU that comes with the DS118 will not transcode for Emby! Is this still the case?
Luke 42077 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Hi there, is it detected by Emby in the server Transcoding section? You can temporarily change the hardware acceleration drop-down to Advanced to show you what was detected. Thanks.
charlesbr 2 Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) Hi Luke, thanks for the reply. Soon after purchasing the DS118 I found read some older posts that said as it was not compatible with the Realtek CPU I have. As a result I have not opened the box and will be returning it BUT if convinced that it can work I may cancel the return and give it a try but the only problem with that is if I do use it then I may not be able to get my money back. I know Apollolake is one that supports vaapi. I believe all the ones which supported vaapi are Intel, but trying to find his post to confirm 1
charlesbr 2 Posted October 14, 2019 Author Posted October 14, 2019 I was able to try out the DS118 and it didn't transcode so I returned it and still got a full refund. Instead I decided to by an Intel NUC mini PC that has Quicksynch built into the CPU which works perfectly for transcoding. 1
