byakuya32 24 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 (edited) You should add dynamic DNS to emby so that it is easier to access it over the web. Some routers come with this but most consumer grade ones don't. Edited October 3, 2019 by byakuya32
laie_techie 16 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 How is this in the scope of emby? Dynamic DNS should be configured on the operating system level.
byakuya32 24 Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 It is usually on the firewall router level but most consumer routers don't have it build in. I have seen many server side programs have it build into the server side software so that they do not need to gegister their ip with a DNS service which has a yearly fee. Just though it would be a good idea for remote connections as I have seen other programs do it.
ffranco0912 0 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 I have a question; I am starting this whole media server journey hasn't been easy but I am having issues connecting externally with emby I made sure about port forwarding and only issue I think might be a problem is the DDNS I've noticed that my ip address keeps changing I'm assuming that is because im connected to a router with a vpn preinstalled in it
rbjtech 5284 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 My advice is to get it working without using a VPN to start with. Unless your VPN supports forwarding and you have configured it to forward to your WAN IP, your only VPN connection will be outgoing connections anyway - unlikely to be what you actually want if you are hosting emby locally. Your WAN IP is still exposed to the internet and your clients connect to this WAN address, not the VPN address.
