olliemax 0 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 I am trying to make an .strm file to play some internet radio stations. I read the Emby Wiki (hopefully correctly), and then created a txt file, popped in the URL, saved the file, changed the extension to .strm, and loaded the file into the library in a folder marked 'radio'. The URL is: http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbcmedia_radio4fm_mf_p Nothing happens, and I can't see a file to select/play on the Emby interface. Any help much appreciated. p.s. The URL works in a browser, but maybe incompatible with Emby - not sure? p.p.s. I wish the Tunein plugin was still working for me!
Luke 42080 Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 Can you please go over a complete example? what is the folder structure? How did you set it up in Emby library setup?
olliemax 0 Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 Sure. I created the file as outlined previously. I am a windows user, if it's of consequence. I added a folder, 'Radio' to my existing directory structure, and placed my file inside. /Media /Radio /radio4.strm I add the folder to my Emby Library, via the Emnby Dashboard. FWIW, I set the content type to 'Music' when adding this folder to my library, then Scan this folder. I'm not sure if the scan is immediate or delayed, but even after hours of waiting, there is no content shown. Not sure what I can add to this? However, I can't confirm either way if Emby would even play the URL? Perhaps you can supply me with a confirmed fully functional URL, and I could try that instead? Hope this helps
olliemax 0 Posted October 4, 2019 Author Posted October 4, 2019 Ok, I have success now. I just edited the folder content type to be 'mixed' - I then also provided the network share path for my 'Radio' folder. I'm not sure which of those changes made it work, but it works, yay!
Luke 42080 Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Well done. For reference, our music naming guide: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Music-naming
Guest Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Got this to work.. testing with Techno.FM...thinking about expanding it a bit... I do see where you can add image representation for the display in Emby.. maybe this will still apply if I drop images into the folder or create a specific folder for say \\Media\Radio\Techno.FM\Techno.FM.strm?... Is there a way to display an image or customize the output in the player? On Emby 4.5.4.0, using the WebUI..
Luke 42080 Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Yes you can add image files to your strm in the same exact way that you would for video files.

Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 LOL.. not this isn't a defect or malfunction... PROMISE.. wondering if there was a way to get an image file or something to show when non-video content is playing.. Sorry wasn't clear.
Luke 42080 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Sorry, my mistake. Try using the web interface to assign it a backdrop image.
Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 I have done that ... As you see here I have a backdrop and the next screen is of the page where I tried adding one again.. It actually just shows the images I already have added.. I thought it was strange I got movie recommendations with my STRM.. LOL BUT I see how it would do so being an STRM file.. and I haven't added my Music yet.. ( still working on that) I did add in the metadata that you see into emby as I plan to for all of my stations.. This screen is what I was looking at getting the background on or something.. and is where I tried to add but showed images already present.
Luke 42080 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 You must have it in a video library and the server is treating as such. To have it be treated as audio, you'll need to put it in a music or audiobooks library.
Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) Okay that could solve it.. I put it in its own share for test purposes under mixed media.. Will do.. Attached end result.. probably add some backdrops.. keep the image fresh on the back ground while playing... Both views.. I kept it in the same share but added it as music this time.. Now I know what to expect this will be easier in the future.. I guess I assumed it was supposed to be using the video player.. like it was.. Thank You or your help again.. Probably be working on some Primary and logo images for these.. backdrops can be easy.. Edited March 16, 2021 by Guest Added screens with a response..
