calebguada 0 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 (edited) Hello Guys, I'm looking for a Server app service to stream my video files to my Roku. My preferences are these: Want to play the videos in its native resolution (most are 1080p or 720p for the moment, any video format most are in MKV container) Want the audio to be played as in native format of the file (play DD+ when the file is DD+ or DTS when it is DTS od DTS-MA when it is. Want to use subtitles (they can be contained in the MKV video files or the could be external srt. subtitle file. Right now the files are in an external hard disk connected to my PC that is running as the Emby Media Player. What do I have to do to get all these three conditions? Changing the Ruku is an acceptable option for me- please suggest a reasonably priced device that will help me get what I want if that is what is needed to be done. I have an Xbox360 that I never use and has never been used as a media player. Also, have a Patriot Box Office Media Player crossed flashed with AC Ryan firmware but I have never been able to connect it to the network - I use it directly connecting a hard drive Thanks. ebr 16187 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 DTS-HD MA is your most restrictive requirement. To my knowledge, that means you will either need a Shield or HTPC. Everything else, I believe the Roku can handle (given proper outboard equipment).
speechles 2055 Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 (edited) https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?t=103315 Read through the above thread. Now supposedly the Roku ultra #4660(4660/4661 retail) has the ability to pass-through DTS-HD MA when using HDMI-ARC. I cannot test this but pretty sure @@ebr has and confimed this does not work yet even though Roku claims it to. I do know the newer RokuTV with HDMI-ARC also are supposed to support DTS-HD MA eventually. Everything else does work when used with HDMI-ARC. It is just DTS-HD MA that is supposed to work but isn't. @@ebr it will be nice once Roku fixes the pass-through issue. I suspect this Christmas season we may get this as a present from Roku. Here is to hoping.. lol. I know if you use the Roku soundbar that just came out with a 4660 it does support DTS-HD MA and it works but that is a pricey adventure. https://www.roku.com/products/audio Edited September 18, 2019 by speechles
