fizzyade 132 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Is there a bug in the poster update code? I am forever returning to my library and finding movies that had posters no longer have them and are showing a screen shot of the movie or show. I understand that emby will periodically update the posters for items in the database. When I looked today I had about 15 without posters, the original posters had been removed and not replaced with new images? The original image should only be replaced if a new image was successfully downloaded, it seems that this is not happening though.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Personally I have never has Emby delete a existing image. So I would first ask what your library settings are? If one is selecting "replace all" then images are nuked then attempled to be refetched.

Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Where can I find this setting, i’ve Just looked under my libraries and can’t see it there.Well there is only manual option for this (Refresh Metadata) unless the libary "Automatically refresh metadata from the internet:" option replaces images also. That is why I asked about library settings. What is yours set to?
fizzyade 132 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Oh, I’m not doing it manually, it’s automatic. Automatically refresh metadata from the internet is set to Never, yet without fail every few days some of the posters just disappear from movies.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 We would need to see a server log for when this happens as there is no automatic option besides the library one that could possibly do this. I know I have never lost any images, but I save images with media.
Luke 42081 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 I understand that emby will periodically update the posters for items in the database. Hi, no we don't do this. What gave you this impression?
fizzyade 132 Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 Hi, no we don't do this. What gave you this impression? Apologies, I thought I'd read somewhere that this was the case. I think I might know what is going on, I have the images stored with the media. Looking back through the NZBGET history I can see that media that posters dissapeared from have recently been "upgraded". I suspect this is the cause of the issue, possibly an interaction between storing posters with media and the fact that my media is stored on an UNRAID server which uses a sort of overlay between disks to create one large file system. I'm going to try not storing the posters with the media and see if that makes any difference.
Luke 42081 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Yes that is exactly what i figured was the issue. If you have images in your media folders, they always get priority. And since you're not allowing Emby to replace them, they'll always end up switching back on the next library scan.

fizzyade 132 Posted September 19, 2019 Author Posted September 19, 2019 Ok, I think I may have gotten to the bottom of this, it was related to the fact I kept getting alerts showing all the time saying "failed to update" and so forth. I run Emby in a docker container, the host (Unraid) has a 10Gb fibre connection to the LAN, what I hadn't noticed was that the fibre connection was flapping, when I looked at the log files on Unraid. it was just a sea of "Port is down/Port is up" messages, happening at best every couple of minutes, at worst much much quicker. If you sat in the Unraid gui or the web interface for my switch you could see their webpages update with the link being up or down. Turns out that Auto Negotiation on a fibre link is not the best thing to have enabled (and it's enabled by default), since I've switched it off I haven't had a single Up/Down event on Unraid and I haven't had any further Alerts in Emby. Which leads me to my next question @@Luke, is there anyway of clearing the Alerts?

They automatically are replace with new alerts or fall off after I believe 7 days.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 (edited) What alerts? Dashboard Alerts, you could have a failed check/alert on the dashboard for up to 7 days if no other alerts happen in that time. Edited September 19, 2019 by Happy2Play 1

Yep @@Luke, this is what I was referring to. Would be nice if there was a button there “Clear Alerts” just so I can acknowledge them, would also make it easier at a glance to see if something was wrong if it’s empty and suddenly some entries appear.
fizzyade 132 Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 Thought I'd fixed the flapping problem, but it came back a few hours later. Then I had a brain wave, I remembered that I had some genuine intel 10Gb SFP+ modules, so hunted through my box of networking equipment and found one of them, luckily it turned out to me a MMF SR LC module which is exactly what I needed, swapped over to using that. It's now been for 13 hours without a single drop. Emby also hasn't produced a single error alert during this period either. Hopeful now that I'm going to be seeing the back of this problem.
