danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Hello, sorry for the possible newbie question. I am not at home so I cannot write exactly what it says, but I downloaded the setup file, when I open it to install it, a pop up comes up saying something like only the administrator and install this or something but even when I log in as the administrator, I still can't do anything. Is there any way around this? What can I do? Thanks, Dan
Luke 42078 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Hi there, did you simply try clicking Yes on that popup?
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Hey, I don't think there even was a Yes button or anything. It was kind of like a warning and that was it.
Luke 42078 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Can you try it again and let me know exactly what it says? Or take a screenshot? Thanks.
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Sure thing, I will try and do that tonight.
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 This is what it says.
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Whoops. Pic didn’t show. How do I post a pic?
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 (edited) Hopefully it worked. It all I can do is click close. Not sure why it is sideways. Edited September 5, 2019 by danvieira82@gmail.com
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Emby needs a admin environment to run the install in. But should have no issue using the portable version in a user (limited) environment. Haven't really don't any testing installing in a Limited user environment.
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 Well that’s the thing. I logged in as Admin but the same thing happened.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 That security warning would appear to be UAC, but your screenshot does not show the option to bypass it. I guess you could try option 2 here to get Emby installed. https://windowsreport.com/open-file-security-warning/ Or grab the portable and unzip it to a location of your choice. https://emby.media/windows-server.html
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 So what’s the difference between the portable install and the regular one?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 So what’s the difference between the portable install and the regular one? In the end only installation choice. The installer installs to the admin user %appdata%, and the portable lets you place the installation where ever you like. Windows may not like some locations you may want to choose though and would affect auto updating and possibly other things. I personally made a folder on "C:" (C:\Emby-Server) and unzipped the system folder to that location and created a shortcut on the desktop to run it.
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 The installer installs to the admin user %appdata%, As an aside, to an (ex-) Windows System Manager the choice to install a program into a location which is explicitly (look at its name!) intended for data is quite bizarre.

danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 I will try with the original install file, then if all else fails, I will do the portable install I guess. Hopefully one of them work.
ebr 16184 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Hopefully it worked. It all I can do is click close. Not sure why it is sideways. You need to look in your advanced settings in Windows as you've set UAC to its most restrictive policy - which basically does not allow you to install things.

OK, I think I read that as option 2 that someone posted above. I am going to give that a shot tonight and see what happens. This is the first time I have this issue though with installing any kind of program. I don't remember ever setting the UAC to high or anything like that either. But I will give it a try.
Luke 42078 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 If you can't find it then you may as well go with the portable install.
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 7, 2019 Author Posted September 7, 2019 Lol still doesn't work. I tried the option 2 stuff from a previous link, didn't work. So i tried to do the portable install, I unzipped it but got errors while unzipping. tried to launch it, didn't work. I am really getting fed up with this. I am not sure what the hell the problem is.
Luke 42078 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 but got errors while unzipping What errors? tried to launch it, didn't work. What exactly happened?
danvieira82@gmail.com 0 Posted September 7, 2019 Author Posted September 7, 2019 (edited) This is the error messages I get. Then when I try to run EmbyServer I get the other. Sorry if they come out sideways. Sorry I don’t know why the pics turn out like that. I am doing this off my phone. Edited September 7, 2019 by danvieira82@gmail.com
