austie 4 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 Hi All, I can't find any answers or even during my initial troubleshooting been able to work it out. But on my system I've noticed lately that if x2 or more users are viewing high quality movies or tv shows at the same time, that the server pauses/skips parts of the content for 1 user while the other user is streaming fine. It seems to happen more when the a user is remote and using the internet while another user is local. I've also noticed that the server is not natively using hardware transcoding but software despite everything set correctly. Any suggestions or ideas? I as thinking about setting up a 2nd Emby Server to try and load balance if possible, but does emby work between 2 servers on the same network?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 2, 2019 Posted September 2, 2019 What is Emby installed on? Sounds like the system may not be powerful enough. I can only assume that a remote user is transcoding and the server is struggling with multiple streams. What are the playback methods being used when you have multiple streams? The fps rate in the ffmpeg log should shed some light on the issue if the server machine is not powerful enough.
Luke 42080 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 @@austie can we please look at an example? Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
austie 4 Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 @Luke Next time it does it I'll grab the logs for you.Can you run 2 emby servers on the same network for load balancing? @Happy2Play Emby is currently installed on Windows 10 Pro i7 3930K 32gb Ram Radeon HD 6980 One is streaming remotely via Chrome & the local instance is via a Nvidia Shield. I have an old Quatro P1000 they were throwing out at work i was thinking about installing and dedicating this to Emby so the Radeon is free for anything else. I also have an old Nvidia GeForce GTX580 lying around some where. Never had much of an issue until the remote access on higher quality stuff recently.
Luke 42080 Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 @Luke Next time it does it I'll grab the logs for you. Can you run 2 emby servers on the same network for load balancing? Great, thanks. You can run two emby servers on the same network, but we don't currently have any load balancing features.
austie 4 Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 @Luke It started doing it on and off all night pausing for a few seconds then playing again I'm only running it on Nvidia Shield and previously these files were playing seamless. Only difference between locations is I have to turn the Audio from Auto to Downsample to Stereo when moving from the Home Theatre amp to direct connect to the TV in the 2 difference rooms in the settings of the Emby App on the Shield. Really perplexing as to why this issue is only just starting. I've attached the logs I could find as the location in the how to report guide doesn't appear to exist on this server. embyserver.txt
Luke 42080 Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Was there an ffmpeg log as well for the playback session?
austie 4 Posted September 5, 2019 Author Posted September 5, 2019 @ Luke Not that I could see that matched the times. But there were some from the night before when it was playing up earlier in the night I've attached all the logs that I could find in the zip file for you Should I enable debugging mode at present? Luke 42080 Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 Which files in the zip were from the timeframe the problem was experienced?
austie 4 Posted September 6, 2019 Author Posted September 6, 2019 @Luke its been happening in all of them As I said it's been really bizzare why its only just started happening, its been noticed since the 4.2.10 update, have considered trying to roll back, but not sure what point to roll back to
Luke 42080 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 Can you pick one example and discuss it while also identifying the log files for it? Thanks.
austie 4 Posted September 7, 2019 Author Posted September 7, 2019 @@Luke This is the recent log files & example. It was about 9-10pm ish last night it occurred. What happens is the movie or tv show is playing then it will appear to pause for 10-20 seconds before proceeding to play further without missing a beat. Some movies or shows play straight through without any issues, but then there are others that are repeat watchings where it does it again. My daughter is big on Star Wars the Clone Wars and this is about her 3rd or 4th re-watch through the series and previously it would play without any issues but now some episodes are stopping and starting during play. If it was only happening on the new files I've added I would have thought it was something to do with those files, but the fact previous watched files are doing it is what's throwing me as to the how and why. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-0321e5db-1a2c-4495-8739-285f6f94a4c0_1.txt
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 Is this issue only happening on avi files?
austie 4 Posted September 11, 2019 Author Posted September 11, 2019 MKV files it seems to be mainly Sorry for the slow response I have been away for a few days for work.
Luke 42080 Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I'm guessing it's only happening on files with mpeg4/xvid, right?
austie 4 Posted September 12, 2019 Author Posted September 12, 2019 It looks like it is happening that way yes. austie 4 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 I noticed @@Luke that last night I was watching a movie and in the logs it showed that I had finished watching it but still had about 20 minutes left to watch. When this occurred it was doing the stopping & starting. I've included all the resent FFMPEG files and server log. Ive also put the details on the file & what the activity logged showed was going on too Hopefully we can get this sorted. I'll be moving the emby server off a Windows 10 Pro machine to a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine in a few weeks with a Nvidia Quatro P1000 card installed. Hopefully this will help make a huge improvement and stop this happening. File Details.zip
austie 4 Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 @@Luke, seems like a recent update has fixed this issue still occurs every now and then but not to the point that I was having major issues.
