BillOatman 596 Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) Not sure if I just need to be educated or if it's a bug, so I'll start here ... Recently I played a few episodes of a TV series from files. When I played them, the CC was on by default. I was able to go and turn them off, but my question is why did they play in the first place? This is a windows server and shield client. Is there a setting that tells it to play CC if they exist? Edited August 27, 2019 by BillOatman
Solution ebr 16187 Posted August 27, 2019 Solution Posted August 27, 2019 Hi. You actually mean subtitles, correct? These were files, not live TV? Whether they are on depends on a lot of factors to do with the particular media and the subtitles (as well as the audio in the item). Look at the default subtitle settings under your user in the web app and there are descriptions of each mode. BTW - this forum is for general discussion about the world of media - not Emby support so I am moving this topic. 1
BillOatman 596 Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Files, correct. I used CC because I believe that's how it is shown in the context menu for turning them off and on. I'll check those settings, thanks!
BillOatman 596 Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) Subtitle Mode was set to Default. I changed it to Only Forced and it did not display the subtitles. The series videos list the subtitles in the dropdown in Emby as English (Default SUBRIP). Is that why they played when my subtitle mode was Default? Edited August 28, 2019 by BillOatman
ebr 16187 Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Subtitle Mode was set to Default. I changed it to Only Forced and it did not display the subtitles. The series videos list the subtitles in the dropdown in Emby as English (Default SUBRIP). Is that why they played when my subtitle mode was Default? Not necessarily... If you read the descriptive text under that option it should explain what that mode does. It doesn't mean always show the track if it is marked default.
BillOatman 596 Posted August 28, 2019 Author Posted August 28, 2019 There was text under it but it didn't make much sense to me at the time for Default. I was in a bit of a hurry though, I'll look at it closer tonight. Thanks for the help.
