Media Browser with VPN

Is there anyone successfully doing this?  At the moment, for anyone outside of my router to have access to my content I am having to use plex and route the myplex ip around my vpn.  I use PrivateInternetAccess which has the problem of changing and sharing ips with multiple users. 

 

I would much rather remove Plex off of my machine and set up all my remote family with Media Browser if at all possible.

Yes, I run a vpn to get into my network, then mediabrowser or any other internal service can be used from there.

What VPN service are you using though?  IE: The problem with PrivateinterneAccess is that you don't have a static ip adress and you share one with other users.  With Plex, you can set up the VPN to ignore the myplex ip.  Are there any possible ways of using Mediabrowser remotely with a VPN that behaves in this way?  Anyone else using PrivateinternetAccess?

I have a Cisco router I use at home and run my own IPSEC vpn endpoint.

Having your own endpoint is going to be the easiest way to do it. You regain control then and your IP from the hardline provider is probably going to be more stable.

I use PIA off and on w/ my original public IP. So far so good because the Wifi is off.

You can port forward PIA but you have to choose locations of their choice. Mine is Canada and I am on the Gulf of Mexico. It is on one of their support page/s for a "how to"

Off a failing memory.
run-cmd-ipconfig
Write down the IP4 ex IP 192.168.1.16
With PIA off search What is my IP
You should see true public IP like 50.175.00.00
Login your router and port forward the IP4 for both ports (8096-xxxx)
In my router I can port one or both tcp/udp. I did both. apply save

Using dd-wrt

 

Oh yeah use public 50.175.00.00 in phone or what ever type of device you're fixing. Wifi off for now.

I'm sorry what do you mean wifi off?  As in you keep PIA off most of the time?

I keep wifi off to prevent false positives in home. Just to make sure it's going over cellular lines.

 

I tested mine and per PIA portforwarding instructions.

Port Forward their port they give you when you hover over task icon green thing something like 22555.

The same as I or you did from above. Except this time use PIA's port hole 22555.

 

On your phone, MB3 will want to change servers. It logs you out.

Top right log back in and you will see MB3 is now using PIA's IP

 

For me it's a pain because I'm sure you have been through network bombs at PIA.

You would have to remotely disconnect PIA somehow if you were at grandmas.

 

To be honest I think I brag and tweak more than I watch.
