file renamed ( Not folder ) losses watched state

If I rename a file ( Not folder ) say from:

 

my-movie.mp4

 

to

 

my-new-move.mp4

 

so the content of the movie is still the same, just the filename has been renamed.

 

Emby will lose the watched status.

 

 

Any idea?

Watched status is tracked by providerids (tmdb, tvdb, imdb) and if the media does not contain these it will be tracked by databaseid.  If a item changes paths to include filename it is removed from the database and re-added so it will get a new databaseid and loose watched status.

Very cool! So if I later down the road update one of 1080p movies with a higher quality 4k version, it will still show up has watched as long it has one of the providerids?

1.  Downloaded a movie called my-girlfriend-[internet].mkv

2.  I then watched it and the status is now watched.

3. I don't like the filename so I renamed it to be my-girlfriend.mkv  ( I simply removed [internet] from the filename, content has not changed )

4. Go back to the movie, it now shows as un-watched and that is just because it consider this is a new movie, not an existing movie.  I checked Plex, it does not do that.

Probably because tmdb, tvdb and imdb don't hold info for porn!

And you just described exactly what you quoted.  I have no idea how Plex does it as I am not a Plex user.

Hi.  As described already, as long as the item has a global identifier of some sort, we can keep track of the status.  If not, then there is no way for the system to know the two files are the same one.
