Just configure scheduled tasks.

Great. Thanks. And also "real-time monitoring" I assume?

Have you explored your library settings?

Yes. I turned off "real-time monitoring" in the lib settings because I was afraid it would change my library at a point in time that my network shares might be unavailable (which should only happen very rarely, but one never knows)

Or maybe I did not understand your comment right?

Then you should be fine.

I can understand your point of view, I also think it's best to not change a running system. But I came to the conclusion that it is ok as it is.

On the one hand you can actually turn off automatic server version updates. And secondly the plugin-updates mostly seem to be minor updates and shouldn't brake anything. The updates also mostly are about functionality that involves the handling of metadata providers which also undergo changes to which emby must adapt in order to work properly.

I think we also need to support the devs a little bit in staying up to date and testing new features. At the end they put a lot of time into this project, and it's not like you pay thousands of dollars for it.

Just my opinion.

Well support the dev is a good thing, but on the other hand - if something changes in the plugins, you can't now, maybe you have to update the server because the version of the plugin doesn't work with an specific server version, is incompatible, it could crashes the server. A lot of things can happen and you have to spend time to solve this issue, have to update the server version, or maybe you can't solve it at this time. Nothing that will be expected, but can happen.

Would just be nice to be sure with an working environment.

@@Server Updates and Folder Scans

Just to say, the last 4 updates, not from release to release but in bigger steps - the library was completly rescanned and the current cache database wasn't used anymore.

At least from a Windows perspective the options are hidden when run as a service.  So if that is the case the only options are manually updating the system.xml.

this dont seem to be an option anymore.

im having an issue with music playlists that import fine but wont allow you to add to them. and this started all the sudden. happens on all betas and portable version of emby. one trouble maker was music brain.

when i make a backup i copy the whole thing so everything should work like it did the last time i made a backup. although i have server updates off. the plugins all update to the latest. to me this makes no sense. especially since the server versions are slowly progressing the .net version and the plugin makers are doing the same.

but to keep things simple and less broken. make a way to turn off plugin updates. or make a way to make sure they at least use the same version of .net the server uses.

i understand they update there plugins to fix issues some times, which would be a reason to contact you. but allot of times they just push thru. or update to the latest.

one would think if they have a full backup where all the features they use are working fine (aka no complaints) then later restore to that. and now have issues because plugins auto update and now your backup is useless. now we have to fully update everything. then go back forth to get that feature to work again over months. then find out other things are broke for god knows how long.  you guys are good at responding. but horrible about fixing anything. mostly chasing your tail. just wasting time uploading logs and hoping private details isnt in logs.

make it easier. provide option to disable. leave off by default for the basic users. but for those of us who know how to trouble shoot. let us disable. then maybe we can provide help and say well mine is working. with this server version and this plugin version.

basically every error in logs is .net related....

Yes lots of changes from almost 6 years ago.  As to many users disabled plugin updates and complained when things stopped working correctly so dev sort of closed the loop and coded the hidden schedule task to rest with ever restart to override custom file disabling the task.  So while server is running one can stop the schedule task until next restart via the api.  But has to be done at ever server restart but don't know if the api call can be done fast enough at restart/startup to prevent the startup task from running.

i understand the Microsoft update mentality but i still dont have to like it lol i see there point. but they at least need to make sure the plugins are approved for that version of emby before updating the plugins. make sure the same .net version at least. it would be awesome if you could just rollback a plugin or version of emby within emby. for troubleshooting purposes. i think that would make everyone's life better and easier to find the problem.

i started making my own android music app. with hopes of not using emby for music. although i did eventually find a way to get emby to update the m3u playlists. but still an issue of converting file paths to work on android . its a simple script but making a music app from scratch, when never made apk. not to fun, but using ai to help.
