Assign new Cover Image to Music Album

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It seems that Emby cannot extract images for music CDs from the MP3 Tags, is it right?

I have assigned a cover image to a CD copy but emby does use the cover which comes from the Meta Data Provider (Cover not in a good quality).

Option 1)
Use the embedded Cover-Art from the MP3 Tag, if available

Option 2)
After uploading a new Cover to emby for this album, it will not be assigned to the single tracks.
The single Tracks are still using the cover from the Meta Data Provider.

-> Use the uploaded cover not only for the Album title, but also for each single track.

At the moment, I need to assign the cover again for each individual title...

Track info does still have the originial cover from the Meta-Data Provider:

No, that's not right. Emby can extract embedded images just fine.

Then what is the reason is not done for either music or audiobooks? No matter which app or the webpage is used, the standard image is displayed, not the embedded image... I've been asking for this for ages...

Hi Luke,

yes, sorry - I just recognized, that Emby used the embedded images by default.

But, it seems that there is one reason, where this isn't working correctly.

Situation:
-> Assign Cover Art from DIscogs (with Mp3 Tag Software)

-> moving the Album into my Emby Library

-> Emby is now displaying the embedded image

-> changing the embedded cover with Mp3 Tag Software

-> refreshing Meta Data for this album

It seems, that emby is still using the previous cover art, instead of the new one.

In this case, if emby already have a cover for this album, it will not use the new embedded cover art from the files.

Assigning a new Cover through emby:

-> The new Cover will be assigned to the album, but not to the single tracks of this album

-> The Tracks still showing the old cover and I need to assign the same cover for each single track

I will try to reproduce this again and provide more details, if possible.

When you do the Refresh on the album are you selecting "Replace existing images" so your new embedded image gets extracted?  If not the existing extracted image would/should be used.

have you tried - deleting the old cover image in emby via edit images and then running a refresh with replace images checked

or just doing a refresh with replace images checked

I have now deleted the cover image, and then rescanned the album.

The new Cover was taken for the Album Cover, but the single tracks have still the old cover assigned.

If I understand this correctly the only way to change a track image is to change the embedded image.  The album image by default comes for the tracks but if you change the Album image in Emby it does not carry over to the individual tracks.  I can only assume that only tracks without embedded images will honor the folder assigned album image.  But can test if needed.

@@Luke is that correct.

So I guess another note would be image provider preferences as the provide may have a different image then the embedded ones.

Okay testing my theory the only time the Album image/changed folder image is used for a track is if the tracks do not have a embedded image.  Track embedded images will alway be used over folder album image.

So currently your options if you prefer the new Album image is manually remove embedded images from tracks or update track images in tagging software.

But I already did this, and the image were not changed?
I have assigned a new image with mp3 tag - but they kept the previous image... But maybe, I did something wrong and I will redo the test.

thanks

You guys are talking about extracting the folder/album image from the files, I misunderstood and thought you meant to extract/display the image per track, so if you have a compilation folder with tracks from various albums, it should display the image embedded in the track, not the default album image...

I haven't tried to assign different images to single tracks right now.
But your issue could be at least similar to mine...

Emby is using the default album image if you open the album and click to "play".

But if you open the playlist then, it should display the cover, which is assigned to the track - and, in my case this was not updated after replacing the images.

So I guess, that the issue could be similar and the single tracks don't load the cover again.

I will try to prepare a test case within the next week, depending on how much time I will have...

Embedded images are already supported for music and audiobooks.

Yes, to set it as default for the album, not to display per track... :)

In the past I've used MediaMonkey to look at all the images for albums and tracks when I've hit these sorts of issues.  Sometimes there's 4 or 5 images for some reason.

You want to customize per track rather than having them all share the album image?
