syarbrou1 0 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 So I have pretty much every Doctor Who episode and special from all the way back to Unearthly Child to current. Any recommendations how to lay things out? Wish things could work for TV more graphically as they do with Movies but it is what it is. Any recommendations for naming or folder structure or anything else? Thanks.
arrbee99 1817 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Personally, just make sure they match / are named that same as in TVDB
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Match TVDB, no trouble at all. For example: \\<MyServer>\<MyShare>\TV Shows\Doctor Who (2005)\Season 01\Doctor Who (2005) S01E01 Rose.mkv
syarbrou1 0 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Posted August 23, 2019 This is how I named my episodes, this keeps the full name and allows Emby to identify the epp using TheTVDB metedata PS dir "J:\Media\TV\Doctor Who\Season 01" | Select name | Sort name Name ---- Doctor Who - S01E01 (001) - An Unearthly Child (1) - An Unearthly Child.mkv Doctor Who - S01E02 (001) - An Unearthly Child (2) - The Cave of Skulls.mkv Doctor Who - S01E03 (001) - An Unearthly Child (3) - The Forest of Fear.mkv Doctor Who - S01E04 (001) - An Unearthly Child (4) - The Firemaker.mkv Doctor Who - S01E05 (002) - The Daleks (1) - The Dead Planet.mkv Thanks for the help. What did you do with as they call it, the Doctor Who 2005 episodes? Don't those technically start over again with Season 01? Thanks.
Guest asrequested Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 Mine are separated by year. Doctor Who (2005) and Doctor Who (1963)
Q-Droid 989 Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 This sounds like something Auto Organize could do for you almost effortlessly.
syarbrou1 0 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Posted August 23, 2019 This sounds like something Auto Organize could do for you almost effortlessly. That sounds like something I'd be afraid to run. Against so many movies and TV shows hate to think if it reorganizes things in a way I don't like and have to redo them. Like even though I use the collections plugin, I still like to keep all my movie collections in their own collections subfolder.
darkassassin07 652 Posted August 23, 2019 Posted August 23, 2019 With my server I seprated the two series acording to these two links (assuming you have the TVDB set as your primary metadata fetcher) Dr. Who (1963) https://www.thetvdb.com/series/doctor-who/seasons/all Dr. Who (2005) https://www.thetvdb.com/series/doctor-who-2005/seasons/all I just went with the structure: /TV Shows/Dr. Who (2005)/Season xx/Dr Who SxxExx <title>.avi Ive found as long as the have the correct season/epp number in the title, and it's in the correct season folder it will identify just fine.

If you haven't used it then it's worth a try. It can rename and arrange the files in Emby friendly way using a naming format of your choice. I've used it to rearrange entire series to make the final structure consistent with the rest of my libraries. I found it quite useful. Auto Organize does not mess with your files already in libraries. It moves and renames from a staging folder to the library of choice. But there are other media file management tools out there that people use.
