rigo8582 16 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 Hopefully I can explain this correctly. But if I have a TV show in my library and there is not a Season folder the TV show will not show up in my library. Once I put a season folder then on a scan it will show up in my library with all the metadata. If I delete the season folder and do a scan the TV is gone from being in the library. In the past when a season was done I would delete the season folder. Then when the new episodes for the following season was found auto organize would have no problem putting the new episodes in and make a folder for its respective season. Is it going to be the case going forward that for a TV show to show up in the library there has to be a folder for a season in it?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 @@Luke Not sure when it broke as existing identified series folders without season folder display properly. But from a new Series perspective a season folder is required to be identified. Otherwise you only see Series folder via Folders.
Luke 42080 Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 A folder or an episode file. Can you please go over an example? thanks.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 A folder or an episode file. Can you please go over an example? thanks. Add a Series with episodes within the series folder (no season folders). This Series is not identified and only appears via folder and no way to make it a Series. Wiki example no longer working from a new media perspective. \TV \Seinfeld (1989) Seinfeld S01E01.mp4 Seinfeld S01E02.mp4
Luke 42080 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 In a TV library? Just tested and it worked fine here. Server is at default metadata settings for the TV library. Or is this a mixed content library? Because that might not work. If it's a mixed content library you'll need season folders.

Once I gave them a video extension, that structure was identified without issue. @@rigo8582 Can you go over a specific example. Actually if I understand it correctly you basically create a empty folder scenario when your remove the season folder. So yes it is the expected behavior of the Series no longer being visible within Emby. Only visible in the library folders tab because Emby basically forgets it is a Series folder do to no media. I can create a folder "Altered Carbon" for example and do a scan. It will not identify as a series, and will only show up in the "Folders" view. If I put a folder in it like "Season 1" and that folder be empty. Then do a scan it will then identify as a series and download all the metadata and images. If I go back and delete "Season 1" folder within "Altered Carbon". Scan the library, the series is no longer identified and goes to only being viewed in the "Folders View". I put some screenshots I just did. I showed a Folder Agents of Shield with a Season 6 folder. How it shows in my library which is correct. Then deleted Season 6 and did a library scan. You will see Agents of Shield is no longer in my library. Then I show that Agents of Shield is showing up in the folders. Edited August 22, 2019 by rigo8582
Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 (edited) This topic. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/71973-empty-folders-showing-up/ Series folders need to have either season folders or episode files. If they have neither then they will not be detected as a series. But you could still have a series folder with empty season folders. Edited August 22, 2019 by Happy2Play

Then I show that Agents of Shield is showing up in the folders. Looks like expected behavior. You have no content inside your agents of shield folder.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 But at the same time I don't understand why existing metadata is not honored to maintain the Series? As noted situation like this affect Upcoming also as Emby basically nuke the Series. The battle of some want empty folders and some don't.
Luke 42080 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Because then a user-misplaced metadata file causes incorrect detection and everybody gets just as mad over that.
Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 22, 2019 Posted August 22, 2019 Personally I prefer metadata detected files over system detection as I can control what a folder is. With Emby we have zero control and are reliant on detection that does not always work as discussed in other topics. I still can't have a 0-9 folder do to it being identified as a series instead of a folder with series in it.
rigo8582 16 Posted August 23, 2019 Author Posted August 23, 2019 (edited) Looks like expected behavior. You have no content inside your agents of shield folder. Did that change recently? In the past Shows used to still populate with the metadata with just the folder in the library. It used to still identify as a series and would put new episodes in with auto organize. When I made this suggestion https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/67447-delete-the-season-folder-when-deleting-the-last-episode/?hl=%2Bseason+%2Bfolder back in January it wasn't operating this way. donjon89 1 Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) TV show1 folder show1 s01e01.mp4 ... show2 folder show2 s0101.mp4 show2 s0102.mp4 ... show3 s01e01.mp4 show3 s01e02.mp4 show3 s01e03.mp4 show4 s01e01.mp4 show5 s01e01.mp4 show3 to show5 dont show up on Shows view, only on Folders view. Is this a bug or Emby works like that? I would realy like to see all shows without managing my subfolders manualy. Edited October 21, 2019 by donjon89
Luke 42080 Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 For now you need to have a series folder. We plan to support what you're doing in the future, but we're not there yet. Thanks.
