equinox74 0 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Hi, I just installed a MB3 on a new system after using MB2.2 for a number of years without issues. My movies are all in a root folder named "Movies", then nested in a folder for each individual movie eg: Movies > Pulp Fiction > pulp_fiction.avi Movies > Iron Giant > iron_g 2006.avi Movies > Superman > suuuupppppeeerrrrmmmaaannnn1976.avi Under the old version of MB2 (using the Chocolate Theme) they displayed as the folder name, however in MB3, they are all displaying as the file name, and given all my files are not consistently named (only the folders are), it is dysfunctional trying to locate movies. Is there a way to display via folder names only? Thanks
ebr 16184 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Neither system is displaying folder names. Both are displaying the title of the item as defined in metadata. If you are seeing raw file names then either that is what is in the metadata or there is no metadata. If it is the latter, then either there was a problem identifying the item (make sure your structure is fully supported) or downloading/reading the metadata. In any case, this is a server issue so I will move this over to that forum for proper visibility.
equinox74 0 Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 Thanks Chief Bottle Washer, I am hoping I will get a response!
Luke 42078 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 if there's no metadata then that's what mb3 uses. i suppose it can always be changed or made configurable, but as presently constructed that's what it does.
Luke 42078 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 They're different apps. MB3 is a lot friendlier with the ability to throw multiple movies into a single folder. in order to do that, you can't assume anything, so that's why the file name is the safest choice.
equinox74 0 Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 I want to have the metadata <Title> changed to that of the folder name as it currently represents the actual file name of the movie. The only way I can get MediaBrowser3 to display the name is by that of the <Title>. This means that there is no real semblance of order when trying to select a movie.....Can someone please provide me with some (relatively simple) instructions on how to batch rename the metadata <title> (and any other required filenames) to that of the folder name?Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
ebr 16184 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 You don't want to go bulk changing the xml directly. That will probably only make the problem come back later. We need to figure out why the movies aren't being recognized in the first place. Do you have existing metadata file in those folders as well? Perhaps a couple screen shots from explorer of the movie folders that have problems would help. \\server\Movies\Pulp Fiction\anyoldfilename.avi should still be seen as Pulp Fiction - unless something else is throwing it off.
equinox74 0 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Thanks, I will post some up when I get home
