DGMayor 90 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Could we get the option to put the categories back at the top? (Movies, TV, Music, Games)? 1
Luke 42078 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 No, but I think there will be configuration to determine the grouping. For instance, whether you want to see media folders individually or combine ones of the same type. I think there will be configuration in regards to that so that the organization can be consistent with every app.
DGMayor 90 Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Soo.. It took people some time to go from the individual collections/libraries/whatever we called them in MB2 to the collection views, and when people freaked out, they were told "this is how it is now, you'll get used to it". Now we're used to it, and it's gone back to the old way. You're killing me
Luke 42078 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I personally prefer the automatic grouping but it creates some inflexibility because you can't separate different kinds of movies, TV, etc. And we had no answer for that. So we addressed that but I do expect it will come back.

Those that want it can have it, those that don't can remove it and everyone's happy.
Luke 42078 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 yes, you can create it now by setting it up that way in your library setup, but not everyone is going to realize that. so it will need to be a little easier.
Starkadius 219 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 @@Luke if the "Movies, TV, Music, Games" views return as an option for the web client then wouldn't that give the client developers reason to not bother implementing the new way of viewing media? It seems that the clients will become more fragmented if they don't follow suit but that's just my opinion. Personally I really like the new way of managing the media as this allows us to add Anime, Foreign, Exercise etc (these are just examples) instead of grouping them into one "media type". I would like to see this to carry over to the other clients as well but as you said somewhere else, it is up to the developers of the clients to implement it...
kkhan 16 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 The new web interface is a retrograde step because of the loss of a very important functionality which has been with us since day one - the ability to have an integrated view across three media types - movies, tv shows and music - irrespective of which folders the media is actually stored in. For example my music collection was stored in three main folders - Classical, Jazz and Others with sub-genres in folders under these. In the previous web interface, I could navigate by folder or I could have an integrated view of the entire collection. Now I can only view the the collection by the three main types folders. Another example, the movie collection is in two folders - Bollywood and Movies Online. This was done to enable my wife to navigate to her favourite genre (i.e. Bollywood) and the integrated view was for everyone else. The great thing about the web client was that irrespective of how the media was arranged in folders (within certain rules of course), an integrated view for the three main media types was always available. Please bring it back! 1

No because it will be an abstraction at the server api level. user picks which way they want, the api returns that and it's consistent across apps. So it wouldn't really be just a web client feature anymore. 1

Abobader 3464 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 You can still do it now too. Simply create a media folder that encompasses all your movies, name it "All Movies" and viola. But that will not fit well or work with whom have mixed type (movies/tv show), like doc/animation folders as example whom setup that way. 4
kkhan 16 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I am not complaining - I am merely stating that this is a retrograde step. Yes I can reorganise my media upto a point as Abo has pointed out. Would I do that - no! Because client functionality (Android, WMC, DLNA for me) remains unchanged and it will take unnecessary time. The web client remains unrivalled as an admin tool.

Hey Abobader, I actually brought this up in the alpha section here. If you read a few posts below that it looks like this will be addressed at some point. 1

fraenhawk 61 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 (edited) I was surprised when I couldn't find a way to see the unified view, but I don't mind too much since on MBC I still keep the (Adult) Shows vs Kids Shows and (Adult) Movies vs Kids Movies separate. However there still is some inconsistency on the new web interface. If I go into my "Shows", then click on the Shows label, I see only the shows in that media folder - good. But if I click Genres, it's still pulling from anywhere in the library. For instance I click Animation and I see shows that are in the "Kids Shows" media folder even though the top left shows that I'm in "Shows" still. Also that Genres screen shows Movies (199), TV Shows (57) so I guess it hasn't been rewritten to handle media folders? If it's intentional that Genres is for the whole library, then maybe it needs to be pulled out separately rather then be a sub-option inside each media folder. Same goes for People and Networks as well... Edited June 2, 2014 by fraenhawk

This occurs for other types as well. Created a library of type "Movies" with only Anime folders being monitored. Going into Anime Movies and then Genres DOES show the genres for those Anime movies that contain them but... ...when going into any of the genres it will show movies from ALL "movie" types and not just limited to the anime folders that are monitored in this collection.
Luke 42078 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 it's just like people. you click on an actor and you want to see what other episodes they're in. it's not quite as useful if you only see what titles they appeared in under folder X. I suppose you could say it should be different for genres, but whether you think they should be there or not, either way, it's really not a matter of much importance.
Starkadius 219 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Well I noticed this during the dev builds but I never mentioned it because personally it isn't much importance as you said. Simply pointing out the discrepancies for users that would expect it to behave a certain way.
