Good to know - thanks ! Lets keep our fingers crossed it gets native Emby support - that would be a AV Enthusiast's dream

Personally I think the Shield Pro pic quality is extremly good, on a Remux of a UHD at any rate. HD Audio passthrough is a Shield Pro strength - a bitstream is a bitstream, Zidoo is not going to add anything here - it's the AVR that does the decoding. The Shield Pro supports all BL & MEL DV profiles (5,7,8) and HDR10 just fine - it's HDR10+ that is missing. If the Zidoo could read the full DV (FEL) then it would be the perfect device. The video and picture quality of even the 1st gen HDR Zidoo absolutly obliterates the latest Shield in both aspects. Tone mapping alone makes a difference. I have an old X10 and a new shield and i gave the shield to a friend becuase it was unbearably lower PQ, and that was on 1080p projector. On my Q82 its even more dramatic difference. Nvidia is just a giant corp that pushes sub par hardware using its native android tv support to sell. That's genuine hands on feedback. Also the shield COMPRESSES the LFE channel and there is no work around, its part of their locked version of Android TV. 1

Thanks for your insights. tbh, I think the Shield PQ is extremly good on my OLED, BUT I have nothing to compare it against - and some of the differences may be the LG OLED image processing etc. I'm totally happy to take the plunge with a new device if there really is that much of a difference - and considering the Shield 2019 is now 5 years old, I'd imagine the latest video processors have indeed improved - but what i don't want to do, is gain in lets say image quality, but lose in compatibility - for me, the 'it just works' has a lot going for it. 1

Your TV image processing no doubt has a major role. I have a Samsung Q82 and it is no slouch, but the differences may be negligable for some. For me its quite dramatic. But where the massive difference is on Projectors. They have a much larger colour palate and the Shield does not send correct colour mapping. Blacks often have 16 bit like texture. Go to a HTPC that supports HEVC hardware decoding and the tone mapping is just outstanding. A mini PC with Emby Desktop might be more in the "it just works" category TBH. Zidoo takes the cake though because it natively supports 3D and I realize that is kinda a Projector custom cinema demograph now. (yes all the new movies still come in 3D lol). But I have to say I am excited to see what the Emby team comes up with, both companies are outstanding. Also it is rumored that Nvida is no longer supporting the Shield so the apps will only be serviced by the vendors, and I think we are all stuck on Android 11 it seems, wich misses the refresh rate switching version 12 fixes. Yes the setting is there but it mismatches most of the time. 1
