Partially Watched in Next Up

Recommended Posts

Hi

It seems since the last update any partially watched tv episodes are not shifting to the far left of the next up shelf like they did in the past. wondering if this just the way it is now or if there is a setting im missing? im using kodi with a skin that only has 2 shelves. i use the recently added and next up for my shelves so this was a nice option as i don't have room for continue watching.

thanks

I think this may be related to Kodi as we've had another Kodi user report that their Next Up wasn't sorting properly.

@@Angelblue05 any ideas?

it is also doing this on my android box with the android tv app on it. it has just been since server ver 4.2 that it has done this. i just set up a copy of server ver 4.1.1.0 and everything is back to the way it was shifting all the partially watched episodes to the left end of next up so it seems to me this is a change on the server end. i guess my question is ... was this an intentional change with the latest update or is it a bug?

How does the web app compare?

No I am not aware of something like that. Especially, I am sure this is internal logic in Kodi. There must be something with the metadata. The add-on does have one custom entry for next episode but that list is pulled directly from Emby and simply displayed in Kodi. No sync involved.

Are you able to replicate this on demand? If so, can you enable debug in the add-on settings > advanced (not Kodi's). Then replicate the problem and provide that Kodi log. Thank you.

After my last post i pulled some old media players out of the closet and tested on every device i had. web app, android tv, android phone, fire tv, roku and kodi. all have the same result.... connected to server ver 4.2 when a show is stopped part way through it stays in its same location in next up but when connected to ver 4.1 it shifts to the far left end of next up. Do i seem to be the only one seeing this? if so should i just try a fresh install?

Perhaps you are using EmbyCon, I made a change recently to only show next up unplayed items in the next up. This was to the widget next up TV shows node.

yes. that is correct. i don't think it is kodi or embycon specific as it is doing the same thing on all devices i've tried.

Yes I can confirm this. I'll take a look at it. Thanks.

Well I, for one, would be completely fine if no partially watched episodes show anywhere in Next Up row but only in Continue Watching and unplayed in Next Up without mixing the two. Since Continue Watching and Next Up rows would basically show the same stuff (few partially played episodes, mixed with unplayed in Next up row) - it always striked me as kinda redundant.

Cheers.

Not everyone may have Continue Watching visible and, if an episode is only partially watched then that is the next thing you want to watch in that series so, therefore, it belongs as the next up episode.

We have discussed merging the two rows completely but that has its own issues and drawbacks.

I understand the implications and and arguments for and against. However, existing solution in which there are basically two same rows shown is not the happiest one, especially partially watched episodes stacked on the left part in Next Up row - at least untill some sort of control is given what rows will be displayed or choice whether partially watched episodes will be included in Next Up is given as a toggle switch.

You already have control over which rows are displayed (and in what order).

Oh, yes, I was always focused on the right part of Home Screen Layout settings in Android TV App, i never even clicked on the left rows. Great, thanks.

Cheers.
