darrenkdean 31 Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 I have been troubleshooting an issue for about a year now, where my Living Room TV & Basement Media Room TV, (both LG 65UH6030), display black screens when attempting to Direct Play sporting events. Today, I was trying to watch the X Games on ABC. After getting the black screen on both TV's, seeing no errors in the logs, I tested all of the other TV's/Devices in the house. All of the samsung tv's & tablets played the channel fine, via Direct Play. If I reduce the stream rate down low enough that the LG TV's force the server to transcode, it works fine. Direct Play, it simply displays a black screen with no audio while the server dashboard reports the stream is playing. It appears whatever this issue is, it's isolated to LG TV's or the LG App. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. SamES 1057 Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Hi, can you please reduce the stream rate down low enough that the LG TV's force the server to transcode, then provide a copy of that transcode log. It sounds like there is something in the stream that the LG does not like which we are trying to DirectPlay, but shouldn't be.

One Direct Play (black screen) & one Transcoding at a 720p 1Mbps. Appreciate you for looking into this. Best- Darren Transcode - Transcoding.txt Transcode - Direct Play.txt
darrenkdean 31 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 And what happened? Same result as always. When I direct play ABC on both of the LG65UH6030's in the house, it showed that it was playing on the server dashboard, but the TV screen was black & there was no audio. When I lowered the stream rate & forced it to transcode, it showed that it was transcoding on the server dashboard, & video/audio played fine on the LG65UH6030's. All other TV's/Devices (non LG) in the house were able to Direct Play the channel just fine.

Thanks Please see attached. It doesn't appear that a Transode Log is being generated when the channel is playing via direct stream. It is Channel 702, ABC, streaming from a HDHR device. "AverageFrameRate":59.94006,"RealFrameRate":59.94006, My initial guess is that this might be higher than LG can DirectPlay in that format, but I could be wrong.

darrenkdean 31 Posted August 14, 2019 Author Posted August 14, 2019 Have you updated to the latest version of Emby Server? Currently Running Server v4.1.1.0 on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Would you like me to update to 4.2.1.0 & retest?
Luke 42077 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 I think it would be a good idea, yes. Thanks.
darrenkdean 31 Posted October 26, 2019 Author Posted October 26, 2019 Happy Saturday! Trying to watch the LSU vs. Auburn game on CBS. Unfortunately, it appears CBS is sufferring from a similar issue to the one above (one above was fixed). Difference this time, is that CBS will not play on the LG TV via Direct Play or Transcoding. Any thoughts here? Server Logs are attached. Did not appear to generate a transcode log. embyserver.txt embyserver force lower speed.txt
SamES 1057 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) I notice in the log the there is a mix of http and https connections to the server. Can you try just using http connections when streaming CBS? I can't recall if anyone has successfully got https connections to the server working via LG TV's. How low did you try and force the transcoding speed down to? At very low speed/resolution I expect it should produce a transcode log. Edited October 27, 2019 by SamES

Still said Direct Stream & did not generate a transcode log. In terms of connection, the TV's connect manually using the IP Address of the machine with a designated port 8096 (http). Not sure why there would be a mix of http & https for CBS, unless there was an external connection streaming CBS at the same time?
Luke 42077 Posted November 4, 2019 Posted November 4, 2019 Well the log is huge so it's probably from other devices.
