evewatchesstuff 1 Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Hey, So I'm sort of unclear as to how the DB / Metadata works on emby. To be more specific, I've setup a metadata 'folder', so stuff is being saved there now. I read the guide and I'm not super sure how say, moving to another server or just backing up my DB (in case of a server crash or admin error) would function. With Plex, I stop the service, backup the library folder and can throw it on a new machine / clean install as long as my file paths are the same. Reading the wiki guide for emby, i'm kind of lost. What db do I back up? If I back up my metadata folder too and it's at the correct location (along with my file paths) is that good? I feel like I'm just missing something. Also, if I allow Emby to 'save' images it fetches, what does that mean? Is it going to download and save the full res (say 2000x3000) or whatever image from its source? That would be sick.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 You pretty much would need to back up your entire "Emby-Server\programdata" folder. This will only work assuming all library paths remain the same or the library.db is useless and all centralized metadata is lost as all the database itemids will change, so the database gets purged. That is why the preferred method is to save metadata and images with media. But it is a users choice. Emby does save images it fetches, either with media or your \metadata\library\xx\xxxxxxxxitemidxxxxxxxxxxxx folder depending on your setting. Each provider has there own image standards so you have to set the fetcher priority for the image quality you prefer.
