Luke 42077 Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Have you tried turning off the transcoding throttle feature?
troyhough 61 Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 Have you tried turning off the transcoding throttle feature? I will do some testing with it disabled but haven't noticed any issues with it before. Is it a new bug? Did you see anything quirky in the logs?
Luke 42077 Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 So far i see nothing obvious, that's why I'm asking you to try that.
troyhough 61 Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 (edited) I disabled transcoding throttle. I tested using 3 devices: (2) nexus 7 2013 and 1 pixel 2 xl. It seems like the pausing and skipping has been eliminated, however with 3 transcodes going, the PC is running at constant 100% CPU, which is probably to be expected. It seems that the 2 Nexus 7's never once changed to Auto 720/1.5, however I observed several times that the Pixel 2 XL still did. Edited August 10, 2019 by troyhough
Luke 42077 Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Thanks for the info. Again I think that is most likely just a display issue in the picker UI. So now the question would be why is the throttle feature causing this. Can you test more and see if it is consistent?
troyhough 61 Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 Thanks for the info. Again I think that is most likely just a display issue in the picker UI. So now the question would be why is the throttle feature causing this. Can you test more and see if it is consistent? Yes I will definitely keep an eye on it. Can you explain though, why, with transcoder throttling enabled, and when it would switch to Auto, the dashboard 'transcode buffer' would say something like -1:59:50 and the playback device would stop buffering and playing completely???? FYI: Version is now showing 4.2.0.42 and the screen dimming slider on the left still appears to be active...
Luke 42077 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 We'd have to look at the specifics of an example. Thanks.
troyhough 61 Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 We'd have to look at the specifics of an example. Thanks. Isn't that why you wanted me to PM you the logs?
Luke 42077 Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Well it sounds like you're talking about something new, right?
troyhough 61 Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Well it sounds like you're talking about something new, right? This problem is happening when the throttle transcoder option is turned ON. With the throttle transcoder option turned to OFF it appears to not have any issues, other than the setting saying AUTO even though it wasn't set or changed to Auto by me. This is tied to what I am talking about this entire post, starting with post #1. So in that sense not "new". I only started noticing this bug/issue the past couple 2-3 weeks or so. So if you mean new as in the past few weeks, then yes it's new.
troyhough 61 Posted August 13, 2019 Author Posted August 13, 2019 (edited) And you're sure this is consistent? I am going to PM you this message now with Logs. Yes, problem is still there! ===================== I just turned back ON the transcode throttle option and restarted the server. I started Bachelor in Paradise on 1 device (using Emby Android App) and Backyard Farmer on my 2nd device (using Web app for Android Chrome). Both were set to 1.5/720. After 5 minutes or so, Backyard Farmer started skipping and sputtering so I went to the Emby dashboard from my PC on the LAN. It didn't show the Backyard Farmer in Active Devices so it must have crashed or something. So yes, there appears to be a big issue and it appears to be connected to the "Throttle Enabled" setting. troyhough 61 Posted August 14, 2019 Author Posted August 14, 2019 So I have been testing a bit more. With transcode throttling turned to ON, the transcoding will just crash. Sometimes the device will fall off the active devices list on the dashboard. Sometimes it will stay listed and instead of the buffer hovering around 2:00 it will shoot up to 1:59:59 and start counting backwards. Sometimes it will fall off the active devices then just show back up and transcoding will start over :00, :30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00 and it will recover as if nothing happened. Meanwhile the movie/show on the device, my Pixel 2 XL (Android Chrome Web app) will stop, sputter, freeze, etc. If I turn off the transcoder throttling option, there doesn't appear to be a problem that I have noticed, yet.
Luke 42077 Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 @@troyhough are you still running into this?
troyhough 61 Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 @@troyhough are you still running into this? @@Luke The only problem that I am still having is playback locking up where commercials are ripped out (using Chrome Web Android). Below is a test video and link to discussion. troyhough 61 Posted October 10, 2019 Author Posted October 10, 2019 (edited) Thanks for the feedback. No problem. I just did some Live TV testing and it did switch to Auto 720/1.5 from 720/1.5, doesn't appear to effect playback... Edited October 10, 2019 by troyhough
