troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I have the default internet playback on mobile set to 1.5Mbps 720p. This seems to provide the best quality with no playback issues 99% of the time, for me. However, I've noticed lately that video playback will freeze in areas that have had no issues prior. When I click on the wrench, it will say AUTO even though I never set it to AUTO. It appears that playback starts out like it's supposed to (1.5/720), but it will then switch to AUTO on it's own and then the video will freeze up when in bad coverage areas. I want playback to STAY at 1.5/720, the setting that I choose in playback settings. I do not want it to always switch to AUTO. What happened? Never did this before.
Luke 42077 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please see how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
Luke 42077 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 I want playback to STAY at 1.5/720, the setting that I choose in playback settings. It does.
troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Starts out at 1.5/720 like it should. Then after a couple minutes, it now says Auto
Luke 42077 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 That's probably just an issue in the UI. Will take a look. Thanks.
troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Ok thanks for checking. On another note, it appears that the brightness slider (moving finger up and down on left side of screen) is still there and is now working! Did you get it fixed? I know you talked about removing it...
Luke 42077 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 It's gone from the web app but still in the android app.
troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 It's gone from the web app but still in the android app. It's working for me with the Android Web app. I don't use the Android app (apk) because of all the audio issues it had/has.
troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Yea looks like i forgot to remove it. Thanks. It appears to be working for me FWIW.
Luke 42077 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Yea but it's just a fake UI filter over the video. Web apps can't actually change screen brightness.
troyhough 61 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Yea but it's just a fake UI filter over the video. Web apps can't actually change screen brightness. Is it hurting anything if it actually WORKS? Before if I brought it down, the screen went totally black.
troyhough 61 Posted August 7, 2019 Author Posted August 7, 2019 Ok so I did quite a bit more testing over the weekend while out and about. Playback is still problematic, not reliable and sputtering. When it starts doing it, I click the gear and sure enough, it says AUTO 1.5 / 720. If I click on 1.5 / 720 (not auto) it starts working great again. After a bit it will pause, stutter and I'll click the gear again and it's back to saying AUTO 1.5 / 720. This is a recent problem that started up and needs fixed. Also- I tried the dimmer slider on Chrome Android this morning while watching Live TV and it blacked out the screen again. Had to back out of the program and restart it for the picture to come back. So yes, it's defective, so please just remove the option. Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Do you see this with the online web app at http://app.emby.media ?
troyhough 61 Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 Do you see this with the online web app at http://app.emby.media ? what am I looking at exactly?
troyhough 61 Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 The quality issue you are mentioning. The web app (Chrome) is the only thing I use unless I am on the couch which then it's Android TV (Shield). So yes this problem is with the web app (Chrome 4.2.0.39)
troyhough 61 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 The quality issue you are mentioning. So I have been testing more the last 24 hours. Current version says 4.2.0.41 Chrome Android Emby Mobile. Server version: 4.2.1.0 1. The Auto issue is still there. Internet playback is set to 1.5/720 and after watching for a bit, it will change to Auto 1.5/720 on it's own. When it does this, playback will freeze up, even on a 50Mbps LTE connection. I have seen it do this while the dashboard is brought up on my PC and it shows the transcode buffer go down to 0:00 2. The brightness slider bug is still present. Slide the brightness up/down on the left and the picture goes to black. 3. New bug found: Several times now in just the last 24 hours, the phone will go to sleep and turn the screen off while playing something. As if the app was in the background or something. I think this was a bug a long time ago and seems to be back.
troyhough 61 Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 A couple more observations: After it changes to Auto 1.5/720 it stays that way if I change to a different movie, show, etc. If I close the app, it will revert back to 1.5/720 as set in the playback settings. Ok this last time it changed to Auto 1.5/720 and it started pausing and hiccuping, I was looking at the dashboad. the Transcode buffer was saying 1:59:59 and going down. It kept pausing and pausing and not working on the mobile device (on a 50Mbps LTE connection). After a while the mobile device disappeared from the list of Active devices and the screen just froze with the movie image on it.
Luke 42077 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 3. New bug found: Several times now in just the last 24 hours, the phone will go to sleep and turn the screen off while playing something. As if the app was in the background or something. I think this was a bug a long time ago and seems to be back. Web apps have no ability to control the screen turning on or off. This would have to be reported to the manufacturer of the browser that you're using. Our android app will keep the screen on while video is playing.

Luke 42077 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 I'm not totally convinced that #1 is an issue because my current hunch is that it's just erroneously sticking the Auto text at the beginning. I think you are still getting the 1.5 that you asked for.

The video starts freezing and the server is showing goofy transcoding times 1:59:55, etc. Then the active device just falls off the dashboard as if something crashed...

This only happens when the device is showing Auto. When it doesn't show Auto, it plays back flawlessly...
Luke 42077 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Have you provided all of the information that was requested in post #2?
