Playback and other issues are not working as well as they used to

Out of curiosity, what's your network look like?  Are you playing wireless?  Is it possible that Emby is negotiating a direct play initially, and then the network is degrading?

ETA

It seems odd to me that you are seeing the same behavior on multiple files and multiple systems.

In the case of this particular Roku player, it is wired.  I can try things other than AVI files.   Most, but not all MKV files work.   But not all.   And they used to.  Same goes for playing personally recorded home videos.   I used to be able to play them through the Emby Roku app, and not I cannot.  They all pixelate.   Something has changed.  I am just not sure what and if it is on the Roku/Emby side, or on my side.   But its to the point where I am starting to consider alternatives.   We just want to be able to play the movies without a lot of hassle.  Much like the TV it is replacing.

Someone mentioned converting AVIs to MKVs I believe.   How is that done?   Is there an automated way to do that?

Can you try something other than an avi file? Thanks.

I could,  but many of these older movies are only in the AVI format.

Thanks for asking.  I was, but now I have bigger problems.   I think I was on to a solution with uninstalling codecs and going with some different codec solutions.

But now I can't seem to run emby, or when I get it running, I can't log into it with my roku devices.   I tried to configure it on the server console, but I can't seem to get in.  As if I don't have permissions now.

And I tried to do a reinstall of the latest embyserver download and now I can't install.  It says my security settings won't allow me to run the program and I have run it as administrator.

I have no idea what is going on, but I am ready to throw up my hands.

Do you still have your previous installation? What happens when you try to start the server?

i can sometimes get into the console.  Sometimes now.  After a few reboots I can get to the console.   where I made a second account and was sure of that password, also I made sure of the original account password, and I cannot get into the WMC instance of Emby or Roku with either account.   Each time it says wrong password.  While the same account/PW works fine through browser access.

Are you running the latest Emby for WMC beta? You need to be on that for the new version of the server.

That's the version of the server. What about Emby for WMC?

I tried. now we are back to my other problem.   I can't install it.   I am prevented.  It says my security settings will not allow it.

What exactly are your getting?

A windows error that says, "Your security settings do not allow this application to be run on your computer"

and I was able to install the beta version.  And I was able to login with my old account and its password.  So the beta seemed to fix the issue.

Thanks.

Now, next and hopefully last issue, before I can get back to the playback issues.

Now when I log in through WMC I get prompted for an account and also the password.   Prior to this point, I only had to click on the account and the account loaded in, as if the password was saved.

I also still have the second account, but I am using the original account, which is what the Rokus are set for.

Great, thanks ! Are you still having an issue on Roku?

Hi. Please try this.

OK. I am trying that.   It took me a bit to find those settings.

Thanks.

Another interesting note, is that in Beta, I now have an odd representation of the shows under my videos.   In the previous version, I would be able to browse and see a listing of all the shows/series and could sort them by date and by alpha.   Now I get these views, latest, upcoming, new.   But I cannot browse the series.  I can't figure out how to fix that.

I think that this is mostly resolved.   Now i can go back to troubleshooting the playback issues.

Thanks, we're happy to help with your playback issues.
