Masterz 2 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 May be problem is in mine. But can't find information about NFO/Xml plugins - how it works, how to write metadata files. Actually no information on that plugins found at moment. Strange.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 What information are you looking for? The NFO plugin is able to read and write metadata with media. Per library Metadata saver needs to enabled and only saves with media. Otherwise metadata is only save to the database. The XML plugin is only able to read existing xml metadata with media.

XML: Where to find information about supported tags etc. - to write own metadata files for home videos, f.e. Looks NFO is not suitable for my needs. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 There is not documentation that I am aware of on specific tags. You could look at the code on GitHub for the XML Metadata/NFOMetadata plugins. Why can't you use NFO and edit metadata directly in Emby?
Luke 42077 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Nfo is the recommended format and is included with the server installation.
Masterz 2 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 Nfo is the recommended format and is included with the server installation. Can I use NFOmetadata plugin as a "reader" only ? Prefer to keep data in Emby database, but using NFO/XML as a data source, like an MP3 tags. Thank You.
Luke 42077 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Yes, just explore the settings for each of your emby libraries.
One2Go 120 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 (edited) XML: Where to find information about supported tags etc. - to write own metadata files for home videos, f.e. Looks NFO is not suitable for my needs. Thanks. I am using a similar approach. No NFO files being saved with the media folders but XML metadata in all my content folders which is read by the XML plugin and entered into the Emby DB. There is no information that I am aware of and ever came across in my many years of using XML metadata files for media browser and Emby, I asked in the past many times different developers, but always only very limited answers or explanations. But from my experience there are very few tags that are supported except in the XML files that can be read by the plugin like movie.xml and series.xml and others. For example I use a folder.xml file for the top folder content of a folder collection and it is read. But the tags that work for me are Title, Sort Title and description. Anything else would have to be entered manually in the metadata manager. Even when reading the XML files often I have to go into the meta data manager and correct the entries, like sometimes having to remove certain starting words in the title or translating a title. For example when adding a new TV show I have to add manually the role for the actors. Downside is you spent extra time Upside you get it correct and just the way you want it. This is especially true for home movies and content not listed in the metadata sources. In that case I have blank XML file templates that I use and populate with the metadata I want and need. Sometimes the description is too short and I replace it with a more appropriate one. Bottom line if you got the time customize it to your liking. Edited July 30, 2019 by One2Go
