crusher11 1101 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 The new update seems to have broken my custom sort exclusions. I have a lot of stubs, which I've tagged in the title to indicate they're on disc, ie "[uHD] 2001: A Space Odyssey", "[bD] 36 Hours", "[DVD] 12 Angry Men". I added "[" and "]" as excluded characters, and "bd", "uhd" and "dvd" as excluded words. It worked fine. But now, it lists all my BDs, followed by all my DVDs, followed by all my UHDs, followed by all the movies that are actually present on the server. Which is how they were listed before I added those sort exclusions.
Luke 42078 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Hi, if you use the metadata editor, does it still show your custom sort titles?
crusher11 1101 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 I didn't add them as custom sort titles, I added exclusions to the config.sys file. Additionally I now notice I'm unable to multi-select, or do anything else that could previously be done by hovering my mouse over a poster image. The three-dot menu doesn't show up, etc.
Luke 42078 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Seems to be there just fine for me. Do you also have touch input, and is that the primary input method?
crusher11 1101 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 I'm on a desktop PC. Anything on the sort exclusions?
Luke 42078 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Have you checked your server config file? are they still there?
crusher11 1101 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 The only difference is that the "SortRemoveChars" are now numbers, not characters, so I can't tell if those are there but my excluded words are still in place.
Luke 42078 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Try refreshing the metadata on those titles and see if that helps. Thanks.
crusher11 1101 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 It seems to work, but again there are hundreds of them (almost 1000, in fact), so doing it one-by-one is hardly viable. And won't that replace things like parental ratings, and custom sort titles for the films which do have them (the Harry Potter series, for example, I've given sort titles so they'll be in release order).
Luke 42078 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Additionally I now notice I'm unable to multi-select, or do anything else that could previously be done by hovering my mouse over a poster image. The three-dot menu doesn't show up, etc. What browser and version? Is your browser out of date?
crusher11 1101 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 Waterfox. I notice, as someone else mentioned, I can still click on the areas that those items should be, they just don't show up on hover. Is there any solution for the sorting issue other than refreshing metadata for all 900 films individually? Am I going to have to do this every time there's an update?

Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) In a test of adding new media with adding 91 and 93 to <SortRemoveChars> and uhd to <SortRemoveWords>, I had no issue with item being sorted to proper position while (unidentified). Had no issue on identified items as they presented a proper title. Making these changes does not apply to existing media, so the existing items had to be removed and re-added. My test was on 4.3.0.0 if it actually makes a difference. So can we go over a specific example. Edited July 31, 2019 by Happy2Play
crusher11 1101 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 (edited) Yes, if I refresh the metadata they sort correctly. So you adding a new item and it sorting properly is in keeping with my experience. It's only the existing items that don't sort correctly, and those did sort correctly with the previous version of Emby. Edited July 31, 2019 by crusher11
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Existing items have to be refreshed in order to rewrite the database SortName with the new exceptions. Have no idea what could of happened if this was working before though. Except for maybe the update from characters to numbers in some areas of the system.xml.
crusher11 1101 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 Yeah I went through having to refresh them when I first started. But the whole thing was working 100% until I updated to 4.2.0.40.
Luke 42078 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 There were database changes. I apologize that your upgrade was not perfectly smooth. Keep in mind you are using a hidden feature, and as a result it will not be as thoroughly tested as other, more visible features.
crusher11 1101 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 That's all well and good, but how do I resolve this issue?
Luke 42078 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Can you refresh the metadata of the impacted titles?
crusher11 1101 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 There are approximately 700 of them. So no. Although, it seems some titles are actually fine. I have no idea what the distinction is between the working and non-working titles.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 1, 2019 Posted August 1, 2019 Would appear your only options are Refreshing the items or removing them from the library, perform a library scan, then re-adding them.
crusher11 1101 Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 Now there's a thought. They're in a separate folder from the movies that actually have video files on my server, so I can prevent other users from seeing them. I keep my NFO and poster art files with my media, so just removing that folder and then re-adding it should work without me losing anything, right?
