b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) This is happening on local as well as remotely, using an nVidia shield (local) and also a Fire stick (remotely) - Server version is:4.2.0.40 - Shield has the current update applied Playback has been stuttering, start to playback a file and it pauses every minute or so for approx 30 seconds and then resumes. Rinse and repeat. This is both local, hardwired direct playback on the shield and also remotely, transcoded on the fire stick. File bitrate doesnt seem to make a difference and logs dont seem to be showing anything too untoward. EDIT: After some playing around it seems that the organsise new files trigger, which was set at 0.083000 (?) was causing playback to pause. I've not come across this problem before but have changed the setting to once every 4 hours and this has seemed to have sorted the problem for now. EDIT AGAIN: Nope, that didn’t work Edited July 28, 2019 by b0dyr0ck2006
Luke 42078 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 The error occurred around the 20:30 mark at the end of the supplied logs. Let me know if there is anything else you require my to upload Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 apparently so, sorry about that. File 1 is from around 17:30 mark, this ends when i rebooted the server. The second file is around 20:30 1.txt 2.txt
Luke 42078 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 So it's direct playing. Can you provide a copy of the media info from the web app detail screen? Perhaps the bitrate is just too high.Thanks.
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 29, 2019 Author Posted July 29, 2019 This is all I get info wise on the web dashboard: These are the nerd stats on the shield: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ebr 16183 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Maybe the issue on the Fire stick is different (like it was transcoding since remote) and this is just the nVidia firmware bug... If you use Playback Correction to force the item to transcode, does the pausing stop?
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 The firestick is flaky at the best of times, has been since I bought it. It’s either a software issue on the stick or embys way of testing connection but this is an issue I have been raising for over two years now and many threads already discuss this As for the shield, this has been working flawlessly for the last year in its current configuration and nothing has changed in the setup other than software updates on emby’s side (the shield got the latest update but had been working fine all year). What is this bug you hint at? I can test the shield with forcing transcoding but this isn’t really a fix. I take it there isn’t anything obviously wrong in the logs? Can I turn off debugging? ebr 16183 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 What is this bug you hint at? It is a long-standing bug in the network layer of the current firmware on the Shield. They have it fixed in a test image you can get by request from their forums. I can test the shield with forcing transcoding but this isn’t really a fix. Many times, when we ask you to try something, it isn't to suggest a fix but, rather, to help us narrow down the issue. If this problem doesn't occur when transcoding, then it is very likely the bug I referenced above. Thanks.

Just seems odd for a problem to suddenly arise, there was a recent server update wasn’t there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Posted July 30, 2019 (edited) Playback correction, forcing transcoding provides seamless playback EDIT: Literally just as I posted that the playback froze at 10 minutes in and resulted in a black screen with the Emby circle spinning ending with ‘too many errors, giving up’ Edited July 30, 2019 by b0dyr0ck2006

ebr 16183 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Playback correction, forcing transcoding provides seamless playback So that does sound like you were experiencing the nVidia firmware issue. Literally just as I posted that the playback froze at 10 minutes in and resulted in a black screen with the Emby circle spinning ending with ‘too many errors, giving up’ And that sounds like a problem encountered while transcoding but it is hard to tell from what we see in the log as it just looks like it stopped. I don't guess you sent an app log right after that happened?
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 The logs sent were directly after, if you’re talking about on the shield then no, I didn’t realise I could. How would I go about doing that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ebr 16183 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 How would I go about doing that? Instructions below but it has to be done right after the issue occurs. How to Report a Problem
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 That’s a bit of a faff just to send a log file. The shield hasn’t updated since around the beginning of the year I believe as the updates aren’t that regular, this is the first time I’ve had any issues with playback on this device. It’s just odd that suddenly I’ve stumbled into errors when nothing has changed, surely if it was a firmware issue this would have appeared earlier? Or has there been a change in the system code that has conflicted with the firmware? I shall try and get some time this evening to recreate the issue and get a log sent over to you guys so that hopefully we can get to bottom of this strange behaviour as it’s turned Emby completely unusable at present which I’m sure you can understand is a little frustrating Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ebr 16183 Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 As it happens, nVidia just released a firmware update today that solves several issues that user's have been seeing for a while. I would be sure and apply that update.
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted July 31, 2019 Author Posted July 31, 2019 Thank you ebr, I noticed that and have applied said update. I will test and report back to you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted August 5, 2019 Author Posted August 5, 2019 Log sent 23:07, watching pennyworth It just freezes constantly both on direct play and when forced transcode. I’ve tried dropping the rate down to 3mb as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ebr 16183 Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 Log sent 23:07, watching pennyworth What time is that EDT? 1) You have installed the Shield update to 8.0? 2) Are you wired or wireless (the update has caused problems with wireless)
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted August 7, 2019 Author Posted August 7, 2019 Sorry mate, that was a very minimal response from me. So this system is hardwired through a network switch direct to the pc, the shield is now on the current dreaded version 8. The server is on auto update stable, so whatever the current iteration is. I have the shield wired to the tv via a Dolby Atmos receiver with an hdmi cable I tested playback last night on a file with a 6mb bitrate and got about 15/20 minutes playback before it froze, using playback correction sometimes worked but it took over 5 minutes to resume. Dropping the connection rate to 3mb resulted in the same stuttering Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ebr 16183 Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 I think these issues are probably network related but what time (EDT) was the log you sent? What was the logged in user? I'd like to find that log and see if I can learn anything. Thanks.
b0dyr0ck2006 57 Posted August 7, 2019 Author Posted August 7, 2019 Google says the edt time is 19:00. The user would be ‘bodyr0ck’ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
