LiveTV > Programs Lists Issues

1)  The continuing issue of the lists under Programs>Shows (and probably the other categories as well) still being limited to 300.  If you're going to take away pagination (long since gone) and make it one list, then you're going to have to allow for more than 300 items.  I know this isn't new -- please just... just fix it already?  please??  ;)   Or, come up with a new creative way to view all the shows (I have some ideas).

2)  Once one manually edits the lists.js file to get around Issue #1, and since it appears the "..." menu in the bottom right corner of each poster seems to have been removed, selecting a show from the full list opens to a new window to look at the description and set the recording options.  The issue is when you return back to the full list of shows/movies, it starts at the top again.  I only have about 15 OTA channels I'm watching and only get the schedules for 7 days in advance -- I can't imagine how many shows/movies other get with the 100s of channels they set up -- but having to scroll back to where I was before each time after selecting a show and returning got tedious very quickly.  Previous versions returned to the previous location in the full list, I believe, because the "..." button opened to a pop-up of sorts and never actually left the full list page.  Not saying bring back the "..." button -- just saying starting over from the beginning of the list each time is an issue (well, for me at any rate).  (If it helps, I normally use Firefox, although just tested it with Edge and it performed the same.)

Maybe I just have a weird/unique method for scheduling recordings -- I dunno.  I don't really ever use the Guide -- I'm more interested in "what" rather than "when".  I use Programs>Shows (or Movies), with View is set to Primary so I see the posters, then sort by Title.  This way I can see very quickly blocks of posters for each show and which episodes are coming up in the next week, and then choose the recording options as desired.  (Would help if the list sorted by Title additionally sorted by air date or by Season/Episode #, but still very usable as is.)

BTW, overall a very nice update.  The performance improvements are very noticeable from my experience -- everything does seem snappier!  :)

Hi, yes you're right, we need to finally get virtual scrolling added. I'm trying to get myself freed up so that i can lock myself in a room until it's done. Thanks.

Thanks, Luke.  I'm hoping it's a small issue to fix, and with the number of major updates Emby has gone thru in the last year or so I think it's understandable that it may get set aside for bigger issues.

The virtual scroll does work!  The list limit really was the only thing.  Not trying telling *you* anything you don't already know -- there were three locations in the List.js file where "300" showed up.  Changing two of those to something bigger allowed the lists to fill in with more items.  For me with only 15 OTA channels and 7 days of schedule, I changed the 300 to 3500 in two places (I think the third place was for music/playlists which I haven't moved my music library into Emby yet, so I left it alone) and was/am able to see the full list of shows/movies.  So the virtual scrolling does work!

Well, except with the additional issues with this latest release, where selecting an item and then going back to the full list places you back at the beginning of the list.

Not sure what you had planned for future updates for Live TV -- I think there's been an intent to update it for awhile.  Just as an idea for the Programs/Shows/Movies, would it be possible to aggregate the items like the "Series" page does (except this would aggregate all upcoming shows), with one poster per upcoming show (maybe with a number in one of the corners to designate how many upcoming episodes there are, and/or maybe a stacked poster to show multiple episodes)?  Then when you select a show, you'd see a list of all the episodes of that show upcoming (just as we currently see scheduled series, with the upcoming episodes in a list at the bottom), and add the ability to set the record from that list (currently can see but not set/unset record from the Programs/Series pages")?  Just an idea...

Keep up the good work!  But if you do lock yourself in the room, make sure you have some water, some good sunlight, and maybe some cookies (if that helps)!  :)

Except it's not a virtual scroll, rather it just loads them all at once into one giant list. If that's performing well enough for you then great. But for many it won't, and that's what virtual scrolling solves. It gives you the same scrolling experience while only loading small chunks at a time, without the need for next/previous page buttons.

Ahh... ok, I see what you're mean by virtual scroll then.  As it is now it does generate a huge single list upfront, although I do notice that the posters don't fill in until they're revealed (that's why I thought it was virtual).  And yeah, someone with 900 channels or something....  woo... grab a bag of popcorn, because even with my small list there's a good 20-30 second delay while it's making the list.

thanks again, Luke!

We're working as quickly as we can to get this feature added. Thanks for the feedback.

I know, Luke.  :)   Really, with the TVDB API thing and just releasing 4.3, there really are much bigger issues to attend to than this.  No argument and no complaint from me.  Honestly, keep up the great work!

I just got a little frustrated because the "normal" fix (editing the list.js file) didn't seem to be working when I updated a server this morning.  Somehow, eventually, it did work, so I removed the earlier post.  I don't want to be a squeaky wheel about it.

While the virtual scroll feature will be a great addition, can't the original list functionality just be restored/fixed?  Other lists work ok -- libraries still have pagination (at least for me).  Is it possible to get a semi-quick fix to restore the LiveTV lists as they were until the virtual scroll can be implemented and worked out?

(Of course, even supposedly quick fixes take time away from the bigger issues that may severely impact more people, so it would still be pretty far down the list (no pun intended ;) )).
