Hello,

I use emby server on NVIDIA Sield TV, accessing an audio library on a SMB network share.

When I use the web frontend via browser, playback starts immediately after hitting the play button. However, using the android app 3.0.46, after hitting the play button, it takes about a minute or so for the playback to start.

What I tried so far:

- clear app cache and memory data on client device - same result

- delete app, reboot phone, install app again - same result

- restart server app - same result

- updated server app to 4.2.0.40

- tried playback on three different Android devices - same result

Attached txt file includes emby server debg log. I can't provide a client log, because I have no log folder on my device (see screenshot)

Thank you.

edit: Sorry for typing error in topic. Could some admin please edit?

Hi there, are you trying to play from your Shield, or from a phone?

Phone. Btw, there is no rotating circle animation between hitting the play button and playbck. It just takes long to start.

Just installed Emby for Android TV on Shield, works flawlessly.

I am not sure if this is 'complete', but it's the whole embyserver.txt file I just downloaded from the server dashboard

Hi, this log is from Emby Server 4.1.1. Can you please try updating to the latest version of Emby Server? Thanks !

With 4.2.0 I was not able to add more libraries. Got a (german) error message like "please check correct path or permissions". So I reverted back to 4.1.1.

I would suggest installing 4.2 again and you should be fine. Thanks.

Alright, 4.2 then, and further investigation: .mp3 file takes about 35 seconds to start, .opus file 60 seconds.

what device and version of android?

Main devoce is a Shiftphone 5me, Android 8.0.0. Also tried on LG Q7, Android 8.1.0 and Chronebook Tab, CromeOS 75.0.3770.144 - same results.

I noticed that after de- and reinstalling the app, an emby server is listed (besides localhost) which I have shut down weeks ago. Even after deleting app cache and memory data in the system settings, the server, which does not exist anymore at all, reappears.

Have you tried clicking on that server and deleting it?

Sure, and it works. Might have nothing to do with my original problem. I was just wondering about it. Didn't expect this data to be stored after deleting and uninstalling the app.

Did you sign in with emby connect?

No. Local accounts only.

Yea that's strange. On my test devices whenever i uninstall, everything is completely gone.

Things are getting more confusing. Some files start playback immediately, others take some time. The duration of delay until playback start varies. I got the impression, that it corresponds to tbe duration of the audio track or the size of the file.

In the server dashnoard I can see the progress bar growing (see screenshot) for the time of delay, then it resets to zero and the actual playback starts.

More ore less... The problem still persists, but I'm using Plex as a workaround for now. I do prefer some functionality of Emby, though. So if you are willing to continue troubleshooting and if I could provide you more information, I'd be happy to do so.

Just some quick testing: When using Emby for Android TV on the same device as the server, playback starts immediately.

Just trying and testing a bit right now, maybe some of this stuff is helpful...

I just tried to playback a lage MP3 file. 200 MB, 5 hours long. When trying to start playback on my Android mobile phone, I couldn't even access the server dashboard from another device within a web browser. After the usual waiting time, playback starts on mobile phone, and at the very same moment, the server dashboards becomes accessible on the second device.
