sfatula 207 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 So, noticing a discrepancy. I have a remote roku set to 1.5 mbps playback speed, server transcodes, and, server bandwidth used averages close to double that via https over the course of 10 minutes. Emby confirms transcoding to 1.5 via dashboard. If it's really transferring via https protocol, there is some overhead, but not that much.
Q-Droid 989 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 (edited) It's not protocol overhead, it's filling the buffer on the player. At some point it should slow down to match the stream. Although I've also watched it cycle from 0 to full speed as it fetches. Edited July 24, 2019 by Q-Droid
sfatula 207 Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 Roku has very little buffer, you'll note where I said I monitored for 10 minutes. The bandwidth did not fall.
Luke 42086 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
sfatula 207 Posted July 24, 2019 Author Posted July 24, 2019 I agree Luke, but was hoping for just that it's expected or not expected. Out of town until Aug 8, was just curious. Any downside to http vs https, re security using remote emby?
Q-Droid 989 Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Roku has very little buffer, you'll note where I said I monitored for 10 minutes. The bandwidth did not fall. How are you monitoring the bandwidth usage? Does it drop to 0 after you pause for a while?
