How does emby handle different parental ratings for the same movie?

Hi,

Currently I am trying to create a small tool which does collect the different information from the nfo files my media library.

Now, I've run into an issue, which could also be interesting for emby itself:

It is possible, to have different cut versions of a movie.

But emby will generate only one nfo file for this movie.

Also, emby does collect the parental rating information based on the information which is available on imdb and other databases.

Now, the following issue could occure:

There are movies with different parental ratings for the different cut versions.

Example, from dusk till dawn --> there is a fsk16 version and a fsk18 version.

Now, it could be that someone will have both veraions in his library, but emby will only take one of these ratings (and it could be possible, that someone could access a version of the movie, he shouldn't be able to).

What do you think, could it be possible to change this behave or working around of this?

Thanks and with best regards,

Chris

With 4.2 the versions are all independent. A user will see the movie in their movie list if they have permission for at least one.

After that, when clicking on the movie, I'm guessing they'll have access to all versions.

@@Happy2Play might be interested in trying that out.

That's really not something that we've looked at to this point.

Hi @@Luke,

another thing I just have noticed and reproduced due to the above topic with only one created nfo file:

Emby is writing the Playback Time for a Movie into the NFO file.
<runtime>108</runtime>

Now, if you have different cuts of a movie, it will always display the runtime based on the information from that NFO file, but not from the current media File.

Let's see an example for the Movie SALT (three different cuts are available on the BluRay)

5d37308a90d0a_2019072317_59_40Emby.png
5d373095ed88f_2019072317_59_53Emby.png

After renaming two of the files and rescanning the library (I wanted to create single NFO files for each Cut), I've got the following:

5d3730c7af412_2019072318_01_21Emby.png
5d3730d613b04_2019072318_01_37Emby.png

As you can see:
"Kinfoassung: 1h 40min"
"Extended Cut 1: 1h 41min"
"Extended Cut 2: 1h 44min"

But due to the fact, that "extended cut 1" is the one emby does generate the NFO file for, all three versions are showing the same runtime of 1h 41min

I think, this isn't something that can be changed easily, but maybe, emby should generate an NFO file for each movie in the folder - and update the displayed information when you change the selection in the front end.
Also, it would be nice to have the possibility to modify single information within the Admin panel - e.g. the Parental Rating information...
If imDB does provide the information "FSK-18" for a movie, but you have in fact a special cut with a lower parental rating, you should be able to change this setting within the Software...

I just noticed, that imDB does know of special parental rating versions:

Below information is for "From Dusk Till Dawn"

But I don't know, how it could be possible to gather these informations through an API call...

They all have their own runtimes. the detail screen just doesn't change to reflect that when you change versions.
