Search for actors is incomplete

This is possibly covered elsewhere but it came up in a conversation with one of my neighbors so I tested some basic functionality on my system.

I will use a very basic explanation that shows the problem.

I have about 75 movies with John Wayne listed as one of the actors.

I do a search for "John Wayne"

It returns only about 12 movies.

This is just a few of the most obvious movies that are missing:

Hatari! (1962)

Rio Bravo (1959)

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

And even True Grit (1969)

In fact as I said only 12 of the 75 "John Wayne" movies I have are returned by a search.

While I do not use search much as I have other ways of finding movies that I want to watch my neighbor feels otherwise and it does seem that that only returning 12 movies out of 75 is woefully inadequate.

Is there some way to search that does not have this limitation?

Or is there something that can be done to make the search useful for things as simple as just finding movies with a particular actor in the cast?

Also I noticed that finding movies by director is even worse. I searched for "Hitchcock" and all I get in return is the TV series "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" and after selecting "people" 11 movies. There is a lot more than that.

BTW: This is in the web interface.

Edit: I discovered that if you click on the word movies at the far side of the initial movie list a screen appears that has all the movies listed. That is not exactly obvious, at least not to us old folks. Maybe it should say something like "More movies" or "Click for full list," Als it does not really look like it is clickable.

But this is now mostly solved and the answer has been communicated to my neighbor.

Search limits results to a certain number. We may expand on this in the future and allow more to be seen. Thanks.

*Edit* - Fixed - Meta Data was different - Mine now appears to show them all.

Yes the search feature shows a lot of different categories. It would not be feasible to give them all really large limits.

I noticed this myself today actually, I checked the metadata for the actor in question and it's identical for all instances - as I expected it to be, but it only shows a percentage of the overall movies.

A very odd decision to limit this - was this based on performance ?  I think people are happy to wait a couple of seconds to see the results if that's what it takes ?

As I stated in my edit to the original post all you must do to see all the movies  for a given actor is after you search go to the list of movies for that actor and then to the word "movies" and click on that and you will see a grid of all the movies you have with that actor.

I edited my first post - I don't need to select 'Movies' to see everything - Mine show all of them without needing to do this.  It was coincidence that a name was spelled differently while reading your thread, but upon investigation and after editing the meta-data, it now appears just fine.

Anyway - all good - nothing to see here  :)
