No, I'm wrong. I thought it was random but I wasn't testing it enough. I still get monster movie trailers for Godzilla, the Addams Family Values trailer for Addams Family, etc. Sorry for the false positive.

This is where you get your trailers from before movies are played and tv shows. You pick what you want to see and also there is a trailer plugin you can install that you go through and pick what you wanna see also but that isn't for your media

I don't run the beta server. I'll have to wait till it goes to the stable release.

I upgraded to the beta server and it seems to work now. I tested it more thoroughly then the last time I said it was working. I'm not getting the obvious trailers anymore. Thanks!

Ok, so I noticed testing this that It's playing a mix of both movie and TV trailers before either a movie or TV show is played.  

It appears to be totally random which is AWESOME, but is there any way you could set it to be library specific?

IE: Random movie trailers before movies and random TV trailers before TV shows.

We didn't ask for relevant. We asked for random. The point of this was to have totally random trailers play before movies/TV shows. 

Having TV show trailers play before a Movie also breaks the immersion of being in a "theater" when watching a movie.

It's been a long time since I was in a theater (Like 10 years, I have agoraphobia, and don't leave my home often) but I don't recall TV trailers being played before movies. (maybe that has changed) lol 

It's not as off putting when a movie trailer plays before TV show, but I still think it would be good to limit it to TV show trailers before episodes too.

There should be generally more granular control for this.  
You get the same effect when you want to watch an Action Blockbuster and randomly a trailer for a French Historical Drama is playing. 
Not only should it be limitable by collection imo, but also by Genre and/or by tag and so on.  
I think this is quite an important part of Emby and would deserve a way more elaborate options-catalog and UI instead of a one-fits-for-all-solution.

I agree that more control over Cinema Intros is 100% needed and all of this should have options to be enable or disable somewhere within the settings, but this feature request was about having total randomness to what trailers were played. 

I want zero connections to the movie I am about to watch. None. I truley want emby to pick random 5 trailers for my library and play them before the movie I intend to watch. The same goes for TV shows. 

(I should also say that I don't use the trailers plugin. All of my trailers are stored locally)

Actually, a whole bunch of commercials play before movies now.  The last movie I went to in a big cinema had 45 minutes of trash in front of the movie starting at the supposed movie show time.

I think most of my issues with trailers are documented in the other trailers plugin thread, but this comment possibly explains why the issues are persisting.

Emby seems to be trying too hard to find "relevant" trailers, which forces certain trailers to be repeated over and over again.  And if emby cannot find a suitable trailer, it just plays one for the movie you are already watching.

If I'm watching indiana jones, i dont want two trailers for indiana jones.  If I'm watching Mission Impossible 3, I don't want trailers for trailers for Mission Impossible 1 & 2.

Not even two comedy trailers when watching a comedy.  

The only restriction I would like is no trailer above the age rating of the movie being shown.

I literally just discovered the whole trailers before a movie thing. But I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly. I too would love to show trailers for movies from my Library, or new and upcoming movies, and for it to be completely random. Right now it does not seem to be random, it's definitely very related to the movie selected. Also the Trailers it's showing are very low resolution, is there a way to force it to be Random, and force it to find at a minimum 1080p Trailers?
