Third party plugin "Vantage Point" is an option

Thanks! That seems to do what I want.

Sadly I finally gave up on trailers. Disabled them today. I use Local trailers and sick of seeing the sequel trailers for a movie that I am watching. Sucks too. I've spent 60-70 hours searching and downloading nearly 1.5k trailers. Trailers need to be random....ugh

Seriously, try @JGWNet's suggestion and install VantagePoint. It does everything CinemaMode should do.

Yeah, I tired. I don't seem to understand this plugin. (set up i mean) It just plays the same 4 trailers every time. No matter what movie I play. The same four, and I have 1.5K movie trailers saved locally.

Oh, shoot, you're right. Guess I didn't test it enough. Well, back to bugging Luke to fix this, I guess.

Luke, what can we do to get this implemented? I know you have a lot on your plate but this doesn't seem like it would be that difficult, it just has to ignore the "similar movies" logic. I really hate to be a pest but it would improve the viewing experience so much for those of us who have spent a lot of time collecting trailers.

Sadly it looks as if we are the only two who care.............................. 😭

Vantage Point just uses the built-in trailer selection logic AFAIK.

No, because it has an option to unselect "related trailers", which is what we're asking for here.

No, it's broken. But if it did work, it would have all the options I want.

@LukeAny movement on this? Really hate bugging you about this. Not having trailers anymore sucks. I know not many people seem to care about this, but PLEASE! lol

How have you configured cinema intros options? You should be able to exclude the internet trailers by unchecking the two boxes for that. Then it will only use your local trailers.

The problem isn't internet trailers vs. local trailers, it's that Emby's logic in picking local trailers is so repetitive and predictable that we end up turning off trailers altogether. We just want a "randomize trailers" checkbox somewhere.

I think that should be improved a little bit on the 4.9 beta channel.

Glad to hear it, but I assume that means the logic for picking related trailers is improved. Are you completely against the idea of random trailers? I get the sense you're not fond of the idea.

I think that can be an option in Cinema Intros settings but I don't think it can be done by default, just based on feedback that's been received over the years.

Fine by me. I don't mind checking a box to turn it on. I just want it to be available.

OK try this version and see how it goes:

Emby.Server.CinemaMode.zip 235.96 kB · 4 downloads

@Luke

Ok, so I uninstalled the Cinema Intros from my server.

Turned off my server dropped this file into my plugin folder (C:\Users\mypc\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\plugins)

Restarted server and tested this new plugin:

I have Cinema Intros set to play 3 trailers

Played Alien (1979)

The trailers I got: Alien Resurrection, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, Alien: Covenant

Tired again with Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)

The trailers I got: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

As far as I can see there is no change here.
Not random at all. It still is showing the trailers for squeals/or connected to the movie I am watching. Which is 100% my issue.

Did I do something wrong?

@chowbok@Luke

Are you getting truly random trailers? Did I do something incorrect with my installation?
