chowbok 132 Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Cinema Mode used to select a trailer randomly from all your trailers, but Luke changed that so now it selects a random trailer from movies that are "related" to the current movie. Can an option be added to go back to the old behavior? I liked the incongruity of having a trailer from a completely different type of movie show. Plus it helps me remember movies I've added. 2
ebr 16169 Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Hi. No, we've always tried to choose a trailer that somehow is relevant to the main movie you are watching. This hasn't changed. 1
chowbok 132 Posted July 19, 2019 Author Posted July 19, 2019 Hmm, okay. Maybe it's just gotten smarter about it, then? I guess then consider this a feature request.
Luke 42077 Posted July 20, 2019 Posted July 20, 2019 It is the exact same algorithm used by more like this, although for Cinema mode the similarity bar is lower so these days it should be fairly random.
chowbok 132 Posted August 21, 2021 Author Posted August 21, 2021 Just wanted to bump this as a possibility. I would really like it to pick a trailer randomly rather than something considered related. Could it possibly be made an option?
crusher11 1101 Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 I'd just like it to be more random so I don't know exactly which trailer I'll get every time I start a movie. Literally any noir I watch, I get the Lady from Shanghai trailer. Every time. 1 1

Literally any noir I watch, I get the Lady from Shanghai trailer. Every time. Yes this! The randomization is unfortunately very bad. It seems to connect a trailer with a movie, and always play the same one anytime that movie is played. I have 25 different trailers for Scott Pilgrim and yet every time my wife watches Mama Mia, the exact same trailer plays. And then since I have two trailers set up to play, it proceeds to play another trailer from the same film. Two days ago I watched a Stones documentary, and it played to trailers for Woodstock. It's not a lack of trailer options. The randomizer is just lacking.
chowbok 132 Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 Any possibility this will be added? It doesn't have to be the default, just an option. Would it be doable as a plugin?
Luke 42077 Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 I think it would be easier to just add the option to Cinema Intros.

Luke 42077 Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Yes it's possible for the future. Thanks. 1
chowbok 132 Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 I don't mean to be a pest, but I still would love to see this feature added. 1 2 1

Smitty018210 143 Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 Bump this again to see if we can finally get some traction on this. I for one would love to have some more variety to the selection of trailers shown before movies. For example if I am watching a Star Wars film. I don't need to see 5 trailers for other Star Wars movies. Why on earth would I want that? I think we should be seeing a mix of the genes types we have in our media libraries. I've gotten to the point on this that I might just turn trailers off. I end up skipping most of them anyway.

The quality is iffy and the selection/algorithm is crap at the mo. I gave up and disabled it, still got the plugin installed just in case things change. 1

What ever algorithm is being used isn't working, or if it is.......................... it's just plain terrible. There is no randomness to it as far as I can see. I can't play the same movie time and time again (I've tested this) and it will play the same 5 trailers every time. What is the point of that? I am pretty close to disabling it. Such a shame too. I have spent hours and hours tracking down trailers to save them to my library. Such a sad waste of time.
crusher11 1101 Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 It could certainly stand to be more random than it is, but the general principle of showing you trailers for films similar to the film you're watching is sound.
chowbok 132 Posted April 19, 2024 Author Posted April 19, 2024 It should be an option. I would prefer completely random trailers. 1 1

Completely disagree. If I am watching a Batman film I don't need to see 5 or more trailers for more or less the same movie. Or for example Godzilla or James Bond or Star Trek. Ect......... I don't need to see multiple trailers for the same type of movie. That's not useful to me at all. Plus we already have the "More Like This" on the movie view page. 28 minutes ago, chowbok said: It should be an option. I would prefer completely random trailers. 100% agreed. I chose the trailers plugin (new and upcoming) hoping it would replicate the cinema experience and peek my interest in new movies. Alas the quality is lacking with most of the trailers and the randomness is also bad. If I'm watching a action movie I want to see other genre's trailer wise (comedy/sci-fi etc.). It just didn't work like cinema intro's/trailers should so I'll give it a miss for now. Edited April 20, 2024 by Junglejim 1

chowbok 132 Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 Pinging this... I'm sorry to be a PITA, but the local trailers option is pretty much unusable without this. Anything we can do to make this happen? 1
Luke 42077 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 HI, we'll look at improving this. Thanks for the feedback. 1

I have emby set to play 4 trailers before each movie. It played all of the Transformer movie sequels trailers. SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!! LOL For real there needs to more randomness to what trailers are shown. Edited August 15, 2024 by Smitty018210 1
JGWNet 1 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Third party plugin "Vantage Point" is an option. I believe it still can be added from the Plugin section. You will find this is more than adequate to get the results you want. I have been using it for the past two years with Home Assistant and Notification/Webhooks to have the complete home theater experience to include lighting automations. Complete customization at its best!! Might be a little challenging for the non tech user.
