BigBangParty 0 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Hi, Just tried to setup Emby after being let down by Plex again but I'm having a bit of an issue: After loading everything most of my library of TV shows is showing everything under 1 episode with multiple versions in a dropdown menu. It seems it might be because those episodes are not in the naming standard ("Show - S01E01") but rather like this "Show - Ep 01". Most of the issues are with my anime section where most shows don't have multiple seasons. I've tested and renamed some episode and they are recognized individually by the server. Is there a way to go around this and have all the episode recognised properly withoàut renaming all my library? I didn't have this issue with Plex
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 (edited) If you want them to display as TV shows, broken out into shows and seasons, you need to follow a supported naming convention. You could use a home video library type and just get a big list of videos in each of your folders if you prefer. Edited July 4, 2019 by Deathsquirrel
BigBangParty 0 Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 It's a hassle to rename the hundreds of videos I have. Other server don't have this issue. What do you mean by a list of bideos in each folder ?
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 (edited) It is your choice you can name and arrange the files the way you want or you can name and arrange them so that Emby has the best chance of matching them. As far as renaming them I find that FileBot makes it pretty quick and easy. I suggest that you do the renaming in a location where Emby cannot see them and then move them back to where Emby sees them. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ TV Shows <- The TV library points here _______ShowName (year) ____________Season 01 __________________ShowName (year) - s01e01 - Optional Name.ext __________________ShowName (year) - s01e02 - Optional Name.ext __________________and so on for the shows in season 01 ____________Season 02 <- just like Season 01 ____________Season 03 <- and so on for each season ____________Season 00 <- or “Specials” __________________ShowName (year) - s00e01 - Optional name __________________ShowName (year) - s00e02 - Optional name __________________and so on for each special Note 1: the eXX part of the specials must match EXACTLY what is found in TheTVDB Note 2: The (year) may be omitted for shows that do not have more than one occurrence throughout the years. There are many other structures and naming systems that work but this is the one I use and it just works. For a mass rename I use FileBot with this format string {n.replaceTrailingBrackets()} - {s00e00.lower()} - {t} ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Edited July 4, 2019 by Gilgamesh_48
Luke 42078 Posted July 5, 2019 Posted July 5, 2019 You don't actually need season folders if you use supported naming conventions: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV-naming Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
lewismarriott 0 Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I am migrating from PLEX to Emby, the moovies have migrated well but the TV series (I have over 900) are a mess, most if not all have all the correcct data naming exept the year, is there a good way to do this ?
rbjtech 5284 Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 (edited) Can you give an example of your TV series folder structure ? If you have multiple series of the same name but different years - then it pays to use the year in brackets - or you can even force the issue using tvdb id's. for example (folder name) - media files themselves do not need this level of detail if in the folder themselves \For All Mankind (2019) [tvdbID=356202]\ The link below shows you the ideal structure/naming :- https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming Edited February 22, 2021 by rbjtech
pwhodges 2012 Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 Although, as Luke says, you don't need season folders under the series folders, my feeling is that it helps. Paul 1

I'll add that if you use seasons folder, you may have several versions of each episode, a feature that is not available without season folders. eg my Series Folder structure is as follows: Series Fantastique Loki - (2021) - [tmdbid=84958] Saison 1 Loki - S01E01 - 4k hevc AAC.mkv Loki - S01E01 - 1080p h264 opus CRF20.mkv Loki - S01E01 - 1080p vp9 opus 2M.mkv Loki - S01E02 - 4k hevc AAC.mkv Loki - S01E02 - 1080p h264 opus CRF20.mkv Loki - S01E02 - 1080p vp9 opus 2M.mkv With that structure, when I play my file, I can choose wich version I play : - 4k hevc on my smart TV - 1080p h264 opus on my laptop when I'm at home (web browser doesn't support hevc without transcoding) - 1080p vp9 opus on my laptop or phone when I'm outside home (VP9 saves bandwidth) 1
