Rew452 15 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Hi, I love my Emby Server and players but there is one thing I have not figured out. Playing movies like Aftermath and John Carter were subtitles are used for German and Martian. If I select subtitles within Emby on my Shield ATV everything has subtitles. I use MakeMKV to create my mkv's is the issue with it or some setting in Emby? Can anyone point me to the fix or how to get this work with these types of movies? Thanks Rew
ebr 16184 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Hi. You need to look for subtitles for those items that are tagged as "Forced Only". That will be ones for only the "foreign" parts of the film. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
Rew452 15 Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Thanks, I just tried selecting them in the CC tab of the Emby player and there are 4 English PGSSUB selections none marked forced. so I cycled through them and the third one gets the forced subtitles. Is this what needs to be done or is there someway to know which is forced? And when found does it stick from then on? Thanks Rew
ebr 16184 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 If they aren't marked as forced, that is an issue with the packaging of this item. How did you rip it? From a disc? If the subs aren't properly tagged, then there is no way the app can find them. If they had been properly tagged, they probably would have been turned on automatically. Now that you manually selected them, the system will remember this on subsequent playback (for this user).
Rew452 15 Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 I use MakeMKV from the original disc. When I made the mkv from Aftermath PGS English (Forced only) was checked. I there something else to check? Thanks Rew
Rew452 15 Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 Hi Luke, No, in Aftermath the selection under CC shows 4 selections, all are labeled -English (PGSSUB)- In John Carter there are 3 selections, again all are labeled - English (PGSSUB)- In both movies none of the CC entries are labeled -Forced. thanks Rew
Luke 42078 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 So in this situation you will just need to enable that subtitle track manually when playing.
ebr 16184 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 You could probably use an mkv editor to properly mark the forced sub tracks but, since we remember your selection, that may not be worth it (unless you have a lot of users).
