Series Record : Keep Up To

Hi, apologies if I have missed this somewhere... As I'm sure I have.

 

I am trying to work out if the keep up to ? Episodes setting stops recording new episodes when the number is reached or if it starts deleting the oldest one to make room at that point?

 

There are some news commentary shows I watch but it's only worth keeping the last couple before they aren't topical any more.
