Emby Server + HDHR3: Error getting channel list

HDHR3-US Dual tuner connected directly to PC's Ethernet port. Firmware: 20170930

WMC has been running great for OTA TV. I'm now checking out other DVR software ahead of Win8.1's EOL in 2023. Emby Server + Theater is up to bat.

I subscribed to Emby Premiere and Emby Server accepted the subscription. I'm trying to get the server to use the HDHomerun Dual HDHR3 tuner.  I've followed the guide at https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Older-HDHomeRun-Support.  I've added the tuner to Emby and then created an Emby Guide Data entry for my local OTA.  The download process shows a grey bar for a few seconds, then quits with no indication of an error.  On the Emby Guide Data entry, when I click Map Channels the page displays no channels.  I viewed the server log and see the following exception. Any ideas? Parts of log...

Info App: Discovered tuner device HD Homerun at http ://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx
Info HttpClient: GET http ://xxx.xxx.xx.xxx/discover.json
Error App: Error getting channel list

Hi there, does the HDHR web interface show your channels?

Found out from this SD post that since my HDHR3 is direct connected to the Ethernet port, I had to enable internet connection sharing on the wifi connection. Then after a reboot of PC and tuner, a channel scan with HDHR setup (which sends the channels to SD servers and responds with a code), the HDHR3 then can respond to Emby's request with the channels it gets by code from SD servers.  LiveTV now works, however, things don't survive a reboot where LiveTV won't play as Emby Theater spins and hangs. The log shows a connection timeout with the HDHR3's discover.json and also a LiveTVConflictException. When I go to the Emby Guide Data entry and click Map Channels, it's empty. Then after clicking to refresh the Emby Guide Data, which does work, LiveTV then works with no changes on the HDHR3 side.

Since WMC is rock solid with the HDHR3 I'm guessing it relies solely on its own channel info and needs nothing else to request a channel to start streaming. Curious why Emby cannot do the same?  Seems overly complicated.

While I don't see Emby working out to replace WMC with my existing setup, I can now check out its features until the monthly sub ends.

Overall I like the layout, showing certain section options, and all the important series recording options are there. Also happy to see Emby using a grid guide. However, there are a few must haves missing in Theater. Note I'm using a media center compatible remote...

1. channel up/down during live tv doesn't work
2. while the skip forward/back buttons work (and thanks for being able to set their seconds), the fast/faster/fastest forward/back buttons don't work
3. when skipping forward and it catches up with live tv, it hangs too long before play and control is given back
4. guide button doesn't work (WMC shows the guide with current channel in PIP)
5. in the guide, channel up/down should page up/down through the grid

As far as nice to haves...
1. display 1 or 2 more rows of the grid guide perhaps with an option to have the top days of week section collapsed and/or make the bottom show info section smaller without the channel image.
2. "live" button doesn't work which is the last channel that was being viewed. not referring to previous channel button which now realizing I haven't tested yet :-)
