Mbedford 7 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 (edited) Hi all, Win10 just updated to 1903 on my media center. This of course as usual has broken my running WMC running in the background, but I use Emby theatre (desktop) for watching live TV nowadays. Because Emby is working ok on the surface but WMC has now been broken by the win10 1903 update, live TV in Emby theater is now broken, To help me troubleshoot this, I want to understand the connection between WMC and Emby live TV. Im using the hauppauge quad TV tuner and adding it to Emby and it shows up as 2 hauppauge devices (just like it shows up as 2 in device manager) hauppauge WinTV 8.5 installed and working WMC is installed, and was working (can play live TV) before win10 1903 update (WMC pulls Australian TV guide data from over the air) latest ServerWMC (stable) is installed ServerWMC emby plugin is installed @@Luke you previously said something about when using the built in Emby hauppauge support, it just relies on a working WinTV installation and doesn't need WMC or ServerWMC to play LiveTV? is this correct, as WMC is now broken because of the 1903 update and live TV in Emby is now broken?? Thank for your continued support. Edited June 17, 2019 by Mbedford
Luke 42077 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Yes please uninstall the server wmc plugin. Thanks. 1
Mbedford 7 Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 Yes I have now. And i have uninstalled serverwmc application as well. Live tv does not work, please help? Also with serverwmc & serverwmc plugin uninstalled, how does emby get the over the air guide listings?
ebr 16169 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Hi. Did you setup your tuners and guide data source for them after uninstalling ServerWMC? Live TV (setup)
Luke 42077 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Live tv does not work, please help? Can you first please describe the problem, and secondly, regarding the guide data question, didn't we go through all of this in your other topic?
Mbedford 7 Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 @@ebr no I didnt select a live tv guide data source, because there is no option to select 'over the air'guide data, which is how guide data is supplied for Australian TV channels @@Luke live TV doesn't work, how can I explain it better, you select a live tv channel, press play and you just get a error at best of no compatible streams. You havnt explained fully to me how 'over the air' tv guide data gets into the emby tv guide screen? Previously my hunch is serverwmc & serverwmc plugin were pushing them from wmc to emby?!?
Mbedford 7 Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Emby server Log attached and some screenshots showing the current config. Live TV is playing now but, On guide screen, only 6 out of the 30+ channels I have are showing, on channels screen all channels are showing on guide screen there is no over the air guide data being displayed from the channels. denz 501 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 I am not sure can emby get ota guide from ota but have a look at nextpvr plugin and install nextpvr. I use icetv for guide data and I use wmc with 1903 and have no issue with it.. All my weekday main viewing is done through wmc.
ebr 16169 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Hi. We do not have access to guide data for Australia but there are one or two topics in this forum on ways to get it and use it in Emby. Thanks.
Mbedford 7 Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 This seems to be a large missing feature that Emby cannot read over the air guide data from channels. Most other TV apps do this e.g WinTV and WMC since the beginning. Im not going to pay for a guide data service like IceTV when all Australian channels provide their guide data for free. So I had guide data in Emby theater before when I had serverwmc & serverwmc plugin installed. So I presume i'll have to install these again to be able to get the over the air guide data back in from WMC again.
Luke 42077 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 It's something we plan to add in the future. For now, you could go back to using ServerWMC.
denz 501 Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 (edited) The guide data may be free but it is not even close to what you get from IceTV that is why it is worth paying i have been their customer for over 15 years and have no regrets paying for guide data.. Edited June 20, 2019 by denz
Mbedford 7 Posted June 20, 2019 Author Posted June 20, 2019 Hi Denz, I disagree with your comment, I used to pay for ice tv many years ago, but switched to free ota guide data provided by the channels. Think about it, it's in their best interests to write good guide data as your more interested to pick a channel and start watching their channel and their ad's.

You might want to investigate using EPG collector... http://sourceforge.net/projects/epgcollector/ This works well with my hauppauge tuners and will effectively scan all channels and strip all the program guide data and store it in an XML file. I believe that EMBY Server can then be pointed to the XML file guide data and import it by specifying XmlTV as the data source. EPG collector can be run via a .bat file and a windows scheduled task can execute this daily. I have this configured and working, although I currently populate WMC with this, which EMBY then pulls across. I'm still running Win7. EMBY & Win10 wont detect my older Hauppauge card, even though it runs WinTV. Edited June 27, 2019 by WalBob
Mbedford 7 Posted June 27, 2019 Author Posted June 27, 2019 Hi all, Update. I've returned to the old config I had before the Win10 1903 update, and now all live TV plays and guide data is shown emby theater. hauppauge WinTV 8.5 app is installed Emby server running on PC with hauppauge quad TV tuner card. Emby theater (desktop) running on same PC linked upto TV. hauppauge tuners added directly in emby WMC running with all channel scanned and guide data from 'over he air' showing (although codecs issue so no channels will actually play in WMC) ServerWMC latest stable installed ServerWMC plug for Emby installed Result is, after a reboot or 2 and some time, all the above works together and all live TV plays and guide data is shown emby theater. So im interested from the Emby team to understand how my setup is working: The ability to play the live TV is coming from the Emby built-in hauppauge support which uses WinTV 8.5 as its source? The ability to display the guide data is coming from WMC which reads the free over the air guide data > ServerWMC > ServerWMC emby plugin > Emby am I correct?

You can't use serverwmc guide data for the emby channels, so what you're most likely seeing is everything coming from serverwmc.
Mbedford 7 Posted June 28, 2019 Author Posted June 28, 2019 Ok so your saying both live tv and guide data is all coming from serverwmc currently in my setup. Maybe that explains why live tv is not quite smooth, seems to be dropping a few fps, very noticable on panning shots. Its not processing power as my rig it's pretty high end and able to playback 4k downloaded content.
