Hi there

I had a recent struggle yesterday when I couldnt open media browser on my computer,  the browser wont connect and google chrome says "ops, cant connect to local host" . The address in this case is http://localhost:8096/mediabrowser/dashboard/dashboard.html

I thought I had solver the problem by reinstalling everything again, and it worked but after I restarted the pc the same issue again!

Ive tried different browsers like internet explorer, didnt work. I even disabled firewall.

I thought it was something to do with my connection but I am browsing PLEX and everything is fine.

Can you help me out? I dont want to keep reinstalling media browser everytime I restart my pc

If I installed the Server everything is fine! But if I end him and start again the server run, but if I go to configuration or bibliothek my browser can't connect.

Maybe check if anything is actually listening on that port.  Open a command prompt and type

netstat -a | find "8096" | find "LISTEN"

Hi

I try this with netstat. But port 8096 is not shown. I found some at an otherport from MB.

Look at screenshot.

Just to clarify, you ran the above netstat command on the machine where the server is installed and running?

Good day,

Can you see the ports for local if you run the command "netstat -a" ?

My best

Ok, I guess you've called your machine "mediabrowser" which is why you are seeing that appearing in the netstat.  But if you don't see any 8096 ports and you haven't changed the default listening port then the server UI isn't going to be accessible.

Could you check your system.xml and ensure the port is definitely 8096?  Look for the following line.

<HttpServerPortNumber>8096</HttpServerPortNumber>

What happens if you select "Restart Server" from the menu?

Probably the same problem here! For approximately 2 weeks now here is what happens: Upon installing the server (latest version tried was  3.0.5263 Beta), everything goes fine, but upon a computer restart the server icon appears in the tray but when I try to open it Firefox tells me the connexion failed. And the only way to access it again is reinstalling the server.

I have attached a log (note that "Accès refusé" means "access denied"). To see if the problem was coming from my PC, I installed the server on another PC, with exactly same settings and media folders, and it works fine even after restart.

thanks a lot!

In your case we're unable to authorize the http server with the operating system. I've seen cases where this happens with UAC disabled. I've also seen cases where this happens due to malware installed on the system. I am not sure what your specific issue is though.

Please try this command in your command prompt ( as administrator )

netsh http show servicestate view=requestq verbose=no

See what "Process ID's" are used.

Check then with this tool what application is using that port. Maybe something else is using that port...

right I had to disable UAC to allow the server to start at windows boot! That was a fast one! I will dig into the forum to try and get the server to start despite UAC,

thanks!

Sorry I spoke way too fast... still not working after re-enabling UAC to default level. I have tried your recommendation: I see 2 different "process IDs" in the cmd prompt: 1724 is used by svchost, and 5148 by wmpnetwk.exe... does that mean that windows media player is back to screw up my media experience even though I haven't touched it for 2 years!?!?

thanks a lot for your help (and sorry for hijacking this thread in case our problems are not related).

I killed the wmp-related process, it  indeed disappeared from TCPView, but still no luck getting back the server to work. I have just quit and restarted the server though, not reinstalled.

And ran a famous online scanner: no malware. Too frustrating, the media browser experience was becoming top notch!

Hi guys.

In the TCPView is no Port 8096 used. When I restart the Server he used anytime an other Port.

See Screenshot from Server Computer!

In the system.xlm stand the 8096 Port. I used the latest stable version from the website here.

My System

Edit

I deinstaled the server without delete the cache files etc. Then I install the server again. Now I can open the configuration but when I look in TCP view the Server don't use the Port 8096.

View from TCPview when Firefox has open the Configuration.

When I restart the Server I can log again.

I think you will only see 8096 in that list if you have an active connection with the server.  Since nothing is connected, you only see the UDP ports which are there so our clients can automatically discover your server.

Could you please sort on the local port?

Is it installed as a service or .... ?

Hi there!

I try to run server as both, but it is always the same. After installation it runs but after restart nothing works. The tray icon will be show but I can't open bibliothek or the configuration. MB Classic on the same system didn't found the server.

As both?  You mean you are running the service and the normal app?  You can't do that...
