neik 873 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 I have a couple of GoPro clips, some of them are in 2,7k60 some others in 4k60, all of them in HEVC. As direct playing those files with Emby isn't that easy I wanted convert them to h264 using following settings: - Profile: TV - Quality: Original quality The end result is a video with less resolution (1080p) and less fps (30 vs. 60) than it was before. As I don't see any options I'm afraid there is no way to influence these conversion settings, correct?
Sammy 790 Posted June 11, 2019 Posted June 11, 2019 First question is why won't they play? What are you using for playback? Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk
neik 873 Posted June 15, 2019 Author Posted June 15, 2019 First question is why won't they play? What are you using for playback? The FireTV Stick (2.Gen) can't handle HEVC >1080p and 60 frames, I guess. Please attach the conversion log. Thanks. Luke 42081 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 Our TV profile is currently configured to limit to 30 fps in order to provide an output suitable for TV devices that we support. So that is why the framerate changes. The resolution and bitrate should be able to be preserved though.
neik 873 Posted June 16, 2019 Author Posted June 16, 2019 Is there any way to workaround that limit? Once again, why not allow users to decide themself what they want? What do I need to do for preserving the resolution? Thanks Luke! 1
Luke 42081 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 It's a good idea to make it configurable, but until such time when that happens, I think we're doing the right thing.
neik 873 Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Here it is: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/74646-options-resolution-fps-etc-for-convert-feature/
DerrickM 23 Posted September 6, 2019 Posted September 6, 2019 What about preserving the resolution? Is that an option somewhere? Mine currently makes my 2160p movies into 1080p movies..
Luke 42081 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 What about preserving the resolution? Is that an option somewhere? Mine currently makes my 2160p movies into 1080p movies.. Can you provide an example conversion log? thanks.
neik 873 Posted September 7, 2019 Author Posted September 7, 2019 What about preserving the resolution? Is that an option somewhere? Mine currently makes my 2160p movies into 1080p movies.. Unfortunately that's not possible. I wanted to do the same and couldn't find an solution within Emby. That's why I opened the feature request in the link above. ;-)
DerrickM 23 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 I will try to provide as much info as i can. Im not sure if the conversion log is finished before the conversion finishes...As far as i can tell it started. When its done ill post the screenshot of the output file. Sorry about he spacing, sending a picture to the server put all that space in automatically.conversionLog.txt
Happy2Play 9782 Posted September 7, 2019 Posted September 7, 2019 (edited) Why in the world would anyone convert hevc 2160p media with a bitrate of almost 50Mb into h264 2160p with a bitrate of almost 100Mb? So your conversion would be what about 130Gb, Why? Edited September 7, 2019 by Happy2Play
DerrickM 23 Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Well the three other times i did it it came out as 1080p, this time it was 2160p so obviously Im just an idiot. My player (fire tv) was choking on the movie and said something like unsupported container, so I figured I would try and use the convert feature. But I still wanted it to be really good quality. Whats wrong with it? The way you said it is like i did one of the stupidest things that can be done, but you put no explanation so it just comes across as condescending...
neik 873 Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 The reason why it was choking might be related to the high bitrate a 4k File usually has. Fire TV's are limited in that aspect afaik. Still, I am wondering which server version you are using because I also tried that and my outcome was always 1080p no matter what I entered. But this was also a couple of server versions ago...
