Qs - HW Transcoding

Good Morning,

 

I have a question regarding the hardware transcoding functionality (which is included in Emby Premiere).

What I would like to know before purchasing it is who is able to use HW transcoding. I mean, I have a synology NAS server at home and I'm pretty sure that -if I pay the subscription- I'll be able to transcode through my intranet. So I'll be able to use it with my TV, tablet, etc.

The question is, would my emby server be transcoding by hardware to my friends (that are out of the network and use my media server) even if they are not "premiere" subscripted? Or in that case they would be transcoding by theirselves?

Hi. Your server handles all transcoding duties so anyone connected to it will take advantage of the feature.

Short answer is "Yes".

 

Long answer is Emby has two options for HWAccel

 

First is "Auto" and the second allows you to set it up as you need based on the hardware Emby detects.

 

You can also Software decode if needed. I need to SW Decode because Emby will not expose Closed Captions for LiveTV if I use HWAccel. This is a work in progress I suppose but was reported at least 6 months ago. @@ebr .. Any updates?
