I've been looking around the forum for an answer on this but nothing found.

Basically my mixed content libraries have both movies and series (documentaries for example, Cosmos would be a 'series' type, and Baraka would be a 'movie' type) and both have the usual folder structures.

The 'series' types work fine but the 'movie' types require an extra depth of navigation to get to the content. So if i hit Baraka i end up on another page that has only Baraka and when i enter that one, i get to the details page of that movie.

Is there a way to eliminate that extra annoying layer ? Which seems quite useless i my opinion...

Can i do something on my end to fix that ?

Hi, for new setups on 4.1.1+ this is no longer the case. if you're willing to go through a destructive process and remove your mixed libraries, run a full scan to clear out the database, then add it back, then you won't see this anymore.

However... i'm sad to report that the extra layer for movies is still present.

I did retry a few times, I ran 2-3 scans in between deleting the library and recreating it... No success.

I'm running 4.1.1.0 on a Synology (if that makes a difference)

What is the your folder structure?   As I don't have this issue on a New library.

Don't know if you can get to the library folder location "*\programdata\root\default\Mixed content (your library name)\options.xml" on the Synology and check what the <CollapseSingleItemFolders> option is set to.

    <series>

        season 1

            content

Try it again with a new name for the library.

i did, totally different name and nothing.. still two layers on the movies

Then you must have extra content in the movie folders that would cause this.

here is a movie that has two layers, as you can see no other videos in there, except maybe trailer and extras ??

The ignore folder could be an issue.

The ignore folder could be an issue.

in there is a .ignore file and a few things. artwork photoshop files, a few zips maybe... but no videos

With a quick test it is the _ignore folder.

What do you see when you navigate to a Mixed content movie in the Metadata manager?  What do you see when you enter a Movie?

my test example cause movie to become folder entry.

@@Luke putting a ".ignore" file in the "_ignore" folder hides the folder but maintains the extra layer entry.

Only tested Mixed Content, but that is where most of these anomalies exist.

Thank you for testing this!

Obviously the best scenario would be that .ignore files be fully honored even in mixed content libraries.

I was hoping my upgrade to 4.2.0.40 would have fixed this issue but i still have it. No change.

I still have to browse down an extra level because the .ignore file isn't fully honored in mixed libraries.

Can't you just remove the _ignore folder?

I can as a temporary workaround, but having the ignore works fine in regular movie and TV libraries. This is clearly a bug in my opinion.

Some of us depend on the way the mixed content right now exactly the way it behaves, to ask the Devs to correct the issue with the ignore folders could break someone's library setup. To remove the ignore folders is a small price to pay for the Devs to focus on other features and bugs of Emby rather then now possible having to work on fixing a difficult content format of the mixed content.

While i totally get what you're saying, I'm in no way trying to rock the boat for my own goals. However, when a feature used to work fine in the past, and got broken along the way, i think it's fair to ask the devs to look into it, making the boat stronger for all of us.

The _ignore underscore has never been a supported folder name. What's happening is, we've fixed a bug, however you've gotten used to the bug and you want it's behavior to continue. Let me explain.

Suppose you have a movie folder with a movie file, and inside that movie folder, another folder called random with video files inside that. What used to happen before is the movie file would end up owning the whole folder and those files inside the random folder would never be accessible in Emby.

Now we've resolved that, but the side effect is that if you have non-recognized folder names under your movie folders, then this will happen. Your _ignore folder is being treated as library content.

What are the contents of the _ignore folder?

I get what you are saying and I navigate any possible dilemma in a different way. When I reach a version that I am happy with because it does 90% plus of what I want it to do, I stop updating for fear it will break something or in your case an advantages bug for you is being fixed that breaks now your routine of organizing and navigating your collection. Just my 5 cents worth.

I understand the library content part, but shouldn't what's in the folder, or it's name be irrelevant since it also contains an .ignore file.

Theoretically my folder might as well named "_potato" and it should be ignored since i placed an .ignore file in it... no ??

Or is the beginning underscore evil in some way? I just put it, so the folder is first alphebetically.

Any hope on fixing this issue ?

Let me recap the problem: In mixed content libraries, the .ignore files do not ignore folders for Movies.

It works as expected for Series, but not for Movies.

Another thing i found while testing: If i place an .ignore file in a folder with a supported name scheme ("Extras" or "Trailers" for example) it works fine.

But i think an .ignore file should work no matter the name of the folder it resides in.

...as it currently does in Mixed Content Series.
