Confused about Transcoding to Roku Emby App

Please see attached screenshot. My understanding is that this means the Roku Emby app needs H.264/AVC and so emby server is transcoding. Is that correct?

Is Roku Emby App using Roku codec? Can the Roku not play standard H.264? Even more confusing for me is that the file is:

Crazy Rich Asians 2018 1080p Blu-ray Remux AVC DTS-HD MA 5.1.

Is the transcoding due to video or audio? Can the Roku not handle DTS-HD?

Basically, I don't understand why Emby is transcoding...can someone shed some light please?

Hi there, did you try clicking the info button to learn why it is transcoding?

Yes, please click that information (i) button and it should tell you that it needs to convert the audio and it is possible that there are other reasons as well.

No Roku supports DTS-HD.

Depends on the Roku model if DTS HD MA works. Roku officially says it is supported on the newest Roku ultra #4660 only. On testing (both me and @@ebr have this model).. nope still isn't working correctly. Only passes through the DTS core when direct playing. When and/if DTS is supported in DTS HD MA flavor the app already supports it. We have it pass this through already if possible. So we just wait until eventually it does. The app does already support 8 channel DTS when found. It just is only passing through 6 from your Roku. This is a Roku firmware issue. On our end we are ready for 8 channel DTS.

Also for DTS to work you must get your Roku settings to understand this is supported. If your Roku doesn't have the Audio HDMI setting set to include DTS and you just use AUTO then you may not have DTS. The Roku can be told to always pass-through DTS. Choose the DD+, DTS setting on your Roku instead of Auto.

The Emby Roku app reads all capabilities for direct play directly from your Roku itself. What the HDMI cable is hooked up to matters. Other things matter. You must get all those to understand to pass-through DTS. Now does the item direct play? You might have to restart your Roku after making HDMI setup changes or Roku audio setting changes. You must do this to get the Roku to see all changes you have made in regards to HDCP/HDMI chain. It rarely if ever refreshes this.

Also use the Emby Roku OSD of the Video Player when playing the item and press down on your remote. Click the gear/cog to open the Playback Settings. Look for the Stats for nerds option on the Playback Settings. Click that and it changes to show Yes. Now on screen tells you why it is transcoding and other things.

Use the Emby Beta on your Roku and you will get features/bugfixes faster than others and can let us know about issues before they go to the Roku store version. Thanks. :)
