skivy71 5 Posted May 27, 2019 Posted May 27, 2019 Hi, sorry if this has been asked, but is it possible to have the output streams (like for live tv, even movies would be great), use ac3 format, as opposed to pcm (I assume)? Reason I ask, I have a AV receiver / TV combo that really causes grief via CEC with my nvidia shield. Because of this, I tend to pipe my shield straight into the TV and extra the sound via a hdmi ---> optical spdif. Since spdif cannot do multichannel PCM, it ends up as PCM 2.0 I see a similar issue, with movies that contain 5.1 aac, as they get decoded to PCM and end up as PCM 2.0 as well. I could fix this, by using ffmpeg to transcode those movies to have an ac3 5.1 stream. So, since emby is using ffmpeg too, can it be made to kick out ac3 as a default? Thanks Neil
skivy71 5 Posted May 27, 2019 Author Posted May 27, 2019 Hmm, by video do you mean 'movies'? Emby is passing through streams ok, i.e. for ac3 / dts etc. It's for 5.1 AAC stuff, that ends up PCM as I don't think that's compatible with my AV receiver (or optical). Soon as it ends up 5.1 PCM, i cannot use optical anymore... It's the same story for live tv, currently all channels I've tested via the HD Homerun (freeview) have ac3 and that hits my AV receiver as it should Just be nice to say, always make audio compressed, i.e. ac3, to make sure optical path ways are correct.
