Problem with D3D11VA HEVC hw decoding using Nvidia Quadro GPU

Hello,

after the update in 4.1.0.26 the hardware acceleration no longer works with my Quadro K4200.

Everything is well activated as before the update but it doesn't work anymore.

My Driver for Quadro is a last version.

I've never seen the error in this log before, but can you try another video file as well as rebooting your machine? Thanks.

Hello Luke,

I did some tests.

If the videos are in H264 the hardware acceleration works but no longer works with the H265.

In the case of my Quadro K4200 board, the H264 is managed with NVDEC but the H265 with DX11VA. I don't know if in the last update there was a change with this but since then it doesn't work anymore.
I also tested with beta version 4.2.01 it doesn't change anything.

@@Skynet92 - Could you please post the hw detection log?

Do you also have logs (ffmpeg + hw detection) from the previous version where you say it was working?

General considerations:

  • As @@kernelcutter mentioned, the Quadro doesn't support H265 decoding, so it's highly unlikely that it has worked before

    .

  • D3D11VA is working differently from the native Nvidia decoder implementation, so it is not unusual that D3D11VA decoding works for H265 even though it's not supported natively.

Our detection says that it's supported, but obviously it doesn't work.

    .

  • We haven't made any recent changes to this, so this might be rather caused by recent changes to your local system (e.g. changed graphics drivers)

    .

  • What you can do:
    • Try to update, revert, re-install your Nvidia drivers

      .

    • Disable DX11VA H265 decoder

When you do this, you should get at least hw accelerated encoding (which is the most important part)-

Hello,

I updated FFmpeg to version 20190430-19af948 x64 and the hardware acceleration on h265 is working again.

Look at the capture and log.

@@Skynet92 - Thanks for the new log.

I've split out your issue into its own topic.

I will need to further investigate this and will report back soon.

@@Skynet92 are you still able to reproduce this?

Hello, Luke,

I replaced it with a quadro that runs on NVdec for the x265.
