raymondjpg 16 Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Fresh install of Windows 10 and Emby Server. For some reason videos when stopped then restarted in Emby Theater desktop do not resume from where stopped, but start from the beginning again. This behaviour is apparent in both Emby Theater installed on the same PC as Emby Server, with no external player configured, and in Emby Theater installed on satellite PCs with potPlayer as an external player. Is there some setting in Emby Server that I have overlooked that allows for videos to resume play from where last stopped? Most recent server log attached. embyserver.txt

For how long have you watched same videos, short time only or they don't show even if stopped halfways, for example? I set the minimum resume percentage to zero on all libraries, and that resulted in a "resume" button appearing for videos in the installation of Emby Theater on the same PC as the server, without an external player configured. I still have the non-resume behaviour in an installation of Emby Theater on a satellite PC that has PotPlayer installed as an external player, and in this case there is no "resume" button appearing after videos have been stopped after a period of play. With the server working in a previous installation of Windows 10, I had no problems with resume play in Emby Theater configured with an external player by simply hitting the play button again.

As far as I know, by using any external player you forego any advanced options in Emby, one of which is "Resume" state, and unless your particular player doesn't internally support resume function - you can't resume at all, and even if it does I reckon it still wouldn't be shown in your Homescreen as there is no way for that playstate to be communicated back. Edit: If I remember correctly, there should be some kind of similar wording/warning in your App settings next to Use External Player checkbox? Cheers Edited May 19, 2019 by GrimReaper76

It turns out the issue is resolved by providing the "(Optional) Shared network folder" path when setting up libraries. I should have known, as in the past that was the only option that worked for satellite PCs on the LAN to gain direct access to files on the server for direct play. Set up this way the external player has direct control over file play, including resume points, and the resume settings in Emby Server do not come into play. It looks to me like for an external player to work properly in a satellite PC, the "(Optional) Shared network folder" path is virtually mandatory.

Without this we're feeding the external player an http url and it just depends on how well it handles that.
