csadoian 36 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I ran into a problem attempting to convert a recording of the Big Bang Theory that was broadcast last night. The .ts file is almost 6GB, so I wanted to convert it to an .mp4 to save some space, as I have done with some of my other recordings. I initiated the conversion and when I when to check on it later I saw that it failed. Tried again, and it failed again. Tried several times with the same result. Rebooted the server and it made no difference. The recording does not appear to be damaged, I played several parts of it and it seems to be fine. It was recorded from an HDHomeRun CONNECT device, from my local CBS affiliate on 47.1. They broadcast in 1080i. The conversion fails almost immediately after queuing the job. Attached is my emby server log. No other logs were generated that I could see. This is the first time I have had trouble converting a recorded program. I have been using the conversion feature quite a bit the last couple of weeks and for the most part it has worked well. Last week I successfully converted the entire season 12 of BBT from .ts to .mp4 using Emby and it worked just fine. Any ideas why this particular file won't convert? embyserver-63693692788.txt
Luke 42083 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Hi, that's strange. Try cancelling the conversion, running a library scan, and then re-creating the conversion. Please see if that helps. Thanks.
csadoian 36 Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 (edited) @@Luke Ok, did that and tried again, no joy. So I tried to do another library scan, but this time I selected to replace all metadata which took longer. Still didn't make a difference. Just to be sure it's only occurring on this file in particular I started a conversion on another single file in another folder and it seems to be progressing fine. The problem wouldn't be the semicolon in the file name, would it? The filename is "The Big Bang Theory S12E23 The Change Constant; The Stockholm Syndrome.ts". Also, it's strange that no ffmpeg-transcode log is being generated. I could have sworn I saw one from yesterday that showed an error but I stupidly erased the file. Whatever is causing it to error out apparently is occurring before the transcode job is generated. embyserver-63693705626.txt Edited May 17, 2019 by csadoian
Luke 42083 Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Can you try a different video and see how that compares? Thanks.
csadoian 36 Posted May 18, 2019 Author Posted May 18, 2019 Can you try a different video and see how that compares? Thanks. In the previous message I said I started a conversion on another video and it worked fine, no errors. The only file I am having trouble with is this one (the Big Bang Episode). I see an error in the Emby logs that I've sent you, but I don't know what it's trying to tell me. Just before the error report there is a line that reports "Path: Unknown path". Don't know if this is really an error. The actual error being reported is "Error during sync transcoding". Further on in the error report it says something about "Sequence contains no matching element". Does the information in the error log give you any clue as to what Emby is having trouble with? embyserver.txt
csadoian 36 Posted May 18, 2019 Author Posted May 18, 2019 @@Luke I tried two things. 1) WHILE THE SERVER WAS OFFLINE, I replaced the file with a known good file taken from one of my other folders of recorded TV shows. I RENAMED this file using the original filename from the Big Bang Theory episode (see msg # 3 in this thread). I then brought the server up and did a FULL library scan on my recording folder. After that was done I verified I could play this file from within Emby, and I could. I then tried to CONVERT the file and it generated an error as before and failed. 2) Thinking the filename might have something to do with it, I did everything as outlined above except I renamed the file to "The Big Bang Theory S12E23 Test". Still no luck in doing a conversion on this file. 3) I can pick any other file in my collection of TV shows and tell Emby to convert it and it will do so with no errors. I finally gave up and used another program I have to manually convert the .ts file to an .mp4. I still retain the .ts file in an offline folder if you need me to run any other tests on it I can.
Luke 42083 Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Does the detail screen for this item show video and audio stream info at the bottom?
csadoian 36 Posted May 18, 2019 Author Posted May 18, 2019 Does the detail screen for this item show video and audio stream info at the bottom? Not sure I follow you on "detail screen". Stats for Nerds? Otherwise where is the "detail screen" you are referring to? When I bring up the episode (just before you play it) Emby shows Video: 1080i MPEG2VIDEO Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1 or Spanish Dolby Digital stereo. Is this what you are referring to?
Luke 42083 Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 It's the main page in the web app that displays all of the information about that video.
csadoian 36 Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 (edited) It's the main page in the web app that displays all of the information about that video. Here you go ... But remember ... as I explained in a previous posting I substituted a completely different media file for this one (just gave the file the same name) and Emby STILL errors out when you tell it to convert it. I think that would eliminate the file itself as being bad. Edited May 19, 2019 by csadoian
csadoian 36 Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 @@Luke Here's a log of a successful conversion of a media file I did this morning. The filename of the media file is "Wynonna Earp S03E01 Blood Red and Going Down.ts" so you can find the relevant area in embyserver.txt. Perhaps if you compare the information provided in the log for this conversion with the info from the failed conversions it might provide a clue as to what is happening on my server. Note: The media file I converted was recorded from my cable provider (720p H264) from a HDHOMERUN tuner. This is different than the file I am having trouble with, it was recorded OTA at 1080i MPEG2, although I don't think this is the issue. I have converted other media files recorded from my OTA tuner. Thanks. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-b1e0b2be-49f4-4a8b-be97-db6b5c09db01_1.txt
Luke 42083 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 thanks. I'm not quite sure yet what the issue is, but i have a feeling it is resolved for the next release as there have been changes in this area.
csadoian 36 Posted June 5, 2019 Author Posted June 5, 2019 thanks. I'm not quite sure yet what the issue is, but i have a feeling it is resolved for the next release as there have been changes in this area. No problem. By the way, it happened again to me the other day on a new recording. As I did before, I worked around it by converting the recording to an .mp4 manually using a different converter program outside of Emby.
