clarkss12 304 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 I have an 8TB powered HD connected to the USB 3 port of my Asus router. I only use it to store my BlueRay and UHD movie rips. This drive, along with router is sitting on my desk, and it is constantly and continually ** churning **. It is driving me nuts, knowing that it is beating itself to death. Why is Emby constantly writing or reading from it?? I have isolated the problem to the Emby server. When I turn off my server running on my microPC, the ** churning ** stops. What settings do I need to check to stop this nerve wracking occurrence...... I only add a video to this location about once a week.
Jdiesel 1431 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 Do you have realtime monitoring enabled for your libraries? If so maybe try disabling it temporarily.

Jdiesel 1431 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 What OS is running on the microPC? Windows? Does the drive still spin up it Emby Server is not running? Might be work checking to isolate if it is an Emby issue or an OS/SMB share issue.
clarkss12 304 Posted May 17, 2019 Author Posted May 17, 2019 The server is running Windows 10. When I shut down the server, the HD was totally silent. I started the server back up, and not the ** chatter ** is back. Emby is doing something to that drive, and I can't understand why. Will any of the logs tell me what is accessing that drive??
JasonG 16 Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Should be as easy as firing up Resource Monitor, and navigating to the 'Disk' tab to see what file read/writes are occurring. That will at least put you in the right direction, based on the files you see listed.

The hard disk is connected to my router, will The resource monitor running on my Windows 10 that my server is running on, see it?

Unfortunately, probably not. You’ll see the connection under Network, however you’ll have to rely on the Emby logs for access information. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
